Okay. Here are my pictures. I placed the 9-volt battery there so show size of package. The wooden box is beautiful Lacquered wood. The photos of the coin itself, I swiped off of one of the ebay listings. Much nicer than I could do with my camera. That probably came from the U.S Mint. These photos do not do it justice. It is a beautiful coin. I hate to put it in my safe deposit box. I notice that three sold on ebay, one for $1555 and two for $1455. In the past two days. That sounds about right. You can buy one form the mint for $1295 including shipping. Since it is one per household, they are probably ordering a second one. It sure makes a fine upscale gift for someone. The Mint has not completed the companion book. It will be shipped later. Image: Image: Image: Image: Image:

Wow! That is definitely a beautiful coin. And the packaging is top-notch. I know many people feel that you are paying for the packaging and would rather save $50 and have it come in a cheap plastic box, but I must admit that I'm a sucker for the nice wood box packaging.

Got mine Friday . UPS just left at the door. No signature. I was so looking forward to seeing this coin. I had ordered it the first hour or two when they came online and waiting this long to receive it. Well the coin itself is beautiful, but the one I received is terrible. The first thing I noticed was a large black spot in the upper left corner of the X in the date. Can be seen with the naked eye. Then looking under a loop it almost had a gouge type effect to it. I guess it could be lint stuck to the die. I'm so disappointed, because there is no way I can keep it with this mark, but if I send it back I'm afraid it will take months before I see another My pictures are never to good, but I did try to post the spot for you to see. What do you think. Lint? What a shame. Image: uhr3.jpg86.18 KB Image: uhr1.jpg95.49 KB Image: uhr2.jpg75.7 KB

Thats no good treas. I would send it back. That thing cost to much. Dont hesitate b/c you only have 7 days. I would call them first. It could be worth more though I dunno. I will let others chime in. maybe start a new thread for the best response. some people overlook threads with all these replys.

Yeah, if I can get though to the mint I will call. Since I ordered on Jan 22, I still have the 30 day return. 7 day went into effect Feb 10th I think. They just make it very confusing because the book is being shipped separately. I don't know if I can return it without the book, which I have not received yet. Also want to make sure I would not be charged the higher price on the exchange. It's just very disappointing to wait all this time and then get this!

I ordered mine 01/22 and it finally arrived yesterday. The coin looks flawless. I'll attempt to take some pictures today and I'll post them if they come out OK.
UPS happened to find us at home so they didn't just leave it on the porch, but they did not require a signature. Also, the carton was wet on the bottom and the moisture had soaked through to the cardboard mint box. Fortunately I was able to dry it off and there is no damage.
It does seem like the shipping process for these expensive coins is pretty darn sloppy!

I have been watching 18 of these auctions on ebay. I am surprised to see that the ones that are being offered as unopened are going for $1600 to $1800. The ones that have been opened are closing out at $1500 to $1600. There is a nice premium for the unopened boxes.

Quote: There is a nice premium for the unopened boxes. Yes, there is a nice premium on those. At quite a risk, because the return privilege to the mint will probably be expired.

But if bought unopened on ebay, they're not planning on returning to the mint

They charged my debit card today. When should I expect it?

I've carefully examined my Ultra High Relief double eagle and I don't see any damage. However, it has very heavy die polish lines on the obverse. These really show up on my photos; they are not quite as apparent in hand. I'm wondering whether I should ask for a replacement. Die polish lines are as-struck artifacts of the minting process and aren't considered to be defects, but on a brilliant (and expensive!) coin like the UHR double eagle they are a bit distracting. I added a photo of the UHR next to a quarter to illustrate the size. It's small, but thick! Any thoughts about the polish lines?

I thought they were supposed to be proof, too! Wait... are they?

According to the certificate they are "business strike" coins. They don't have any cameo contrast to speak of, but mine sure looks a lot like a non-cameo brilliant proof!
