The missing plating is yelling damage. How not sure how it was mangled. It wasn't struck that way. But note that the devices are under the affected area and are not showing any distortion? I would hold onto for now. Reminds me of a Bezel that was added to the outside edge of the coin?

Bezel added to the outside of the coin? Coin weighs 2.5 grams perfectly. If that was the case I'd say the whole rim would have an affect and you'd be able to see that more on k5 to k9ish. That rim then gets bigger since bc of the finning its all one. How I see it. I agree with Mikes assessment and a few others on Facebook that are very very into errors 30,40+ years experience dealing. would've straight out told me it is not what I said it was and not a true error. They are very honest. I agree confusing to wrap the head around the error. It'll always pose questions. I certainly don't have answers. I have knowledge but not all the technical stuff about it.

Coop, tall fins on zinc cents usually lose their copper plating. The plating is stretched beyond its capacity to hold together. It's also scraped off against the side of the die neck and the working face of the collar. And as I said earlier, the fins are very fragile. They often break away, get sheared off, or are folded inward.

Thanks for the up date Mike. It would explain whey the devices were on the strike and the issue you mentioned to me now make sense. Thus my mentioning to keep it save. I must have missed you comment on another page. First time I've seen this before. Thanks again. (I clicked on the last 15 replies feature and it didn't include Mike First Post. So I missed that the first time.)

That's a very impressive error, nice acquisition! I had not chimed in on this, was waiting to see the outcome, because I was clueless.

Are you going to send it to PCGS or ANACS? If so, please post results with a full slab photo front and back. John1

Quote: . Are you going to send it to PCGS or ANACS? If so, please post results with a full slab photo front and back I don't think I will be maybe in the future. I don't see it going for crazy high prices after it's graded maybe 150-300 dollar coin. I know that's kinda a wide range lol
