You guys are the best and yes, this is so much fun! I need to find a way to get clear pics of the back, to the naked eye with mag you can (maybe) see some extra letters, but I couldn't get a good upload! I just ordered a book to start keeping coins in, so it's off to the races!

Thanks for the additional photos. I was trying to match the spiked head to cuds-on-coins listings, I thought maybe SKH-1c-1983-25 but the reverse die cracks are not present on your coin. Check this link out for the 1983 spiked heads. http://cuds-on-coins.com/lincoln-ce...s-1980-1989/ You will need to scroll down a bit to get to the 1983's

I was actually on this page too looking but you pointing it out made me see that the spiked head is bigger than I thought.... going through the hair.. thank you! On the reverse there are some examples showing a small line to the left lower corner of the memorial towards the rim. But only on the left side. I'm still looking over that website for more. I keep thinking I'm seeing other letters but I can't really see it well enough. 1983-21 has a similar small Cud on lower obverse like mine, kind of, but not in exact spot. :)

This is a nice coin you presented here, lots of die cracks and a rim Cud. Quote: What's 2x2? LOL Not sure if you got your answer on the 2x2 question yet. A 2x2 is a 2 inch square lined by mylar to protect your coins. they come in different sizes for each type of coin minted. like these: (you don't need to buy from the following site - it is just an example. You may be able to find better prices) https://www.coinsupplyexpress.com/g...feed=Froogle

I don't know if this is a smart way to keep them but I want to get them organized for now. But thank you for the info! Good to know. Maybe I will pick up a few for the cooler coins. And yessss I am so excited about my penny! I keep finding more interesting things on it. Next investment is a usb microscope! I'm officially obsessed now lol :)

Cool coin. You can tell by the fact that the features on Lincolns bust are not very defined by a pot of over polishing of the die. There were obviously some other issues like probably a die clash or just normal wear and tear and they polished the die prob multiple times to try and get every last bit of life out of it. Main example being his neck is almost completely gone around the throat area. Usually when they get to this point the die will start to fail and you'll start seeing die cracks and chips and abrasions from being polished multiple times. I agree that it looks like you have a pretty decent crack going from the rim through Abes head which almost looks like it goes from rim to rim. You mk right even have an RIDB which is a retained interior die break on his skull. It's when the die is failing and a piece breaks free from the die face but doesn't fall out of place but leaves the outline of where the break occurred. Try taking some normal pictures with your phone under good lighting and dont use your flash. Get as close as possible where it still focuses and maybe zoom in 1 or 2 times. Then after you take your pic, zoom in after you open it in your gallery and you should be able to see a lot more detail. I personally dont recommend a microscope. I use a little clip on magnifying lenses from Walmart to take pics with and a pair of magnifying glasses with the l.e.d. light built on for searching. Kine have 5x 10x 15x and 25x magnification and I can breeze through coins way faster. Try taking sonic of this coin again with your phone under a bright light with no flash and just play around with the angles and then just zoom in or out and drop it when you get a good clear pic. I'd like to see a better resolution of abes head cause it looks like a pretty decent die crack that's maybe a rim to rim or atleast an ridb.

What ever you buy, remember, the glass optics are better than plastic lenses. Be selective when buying get the right ocular the first time. (Hard to sell on that doesn't work for you) if you need to save for a time, try this : each $10 bill you get, put it in an envelope for your new scope/ocular. You don't get these as often in change, so they are missed less in your budget. Soon you will have what you need to purchase what you really want. Look forward to the day and be patient.

I have to save all of these notes and print it to attach to penny. Anyhow, I used daylight and my regular iphone zoomed in then cropped. These might be better, or worse lol. I hadn't even noticed his neck! So, this is an old die that is at the end of its life? Uploads are not working at all. I will post the images separately when I am able to get the function to work. The optimizer isn't working either. Might reboot real quick.

That's great advice!!! Thank you so much! Ok, glass is the way to go.. super helpful! :) I am so frustrated that I can't see clearly and I can't wait to get something that will help me speed through the process. I am learning and trying to see clearly for the first time! haha. I know I am missing a lot at this point, but soon enough I'll get there! :)
