1972 D DDR Penny Just Found Whats The Value?

You know what I totally just give up I've searched millions of coins and never have I came across such coins like this I've maybe found about a handful and that's only because I got my mother in laws old old piggy bank filled with wheats and memorial cents but I am totally so disappointed now I don't even want to do this no more and I've been doing it for years how could something like this be worthless to someone or how could it be Machine Doubling and not a genuine doubled die I'd pay for this honestly but I guess other people wouldn't idk I'm PO'D to say the least bit but thanks for the input I guess I'll never truly figure out how to spot a doubled die I just can't fathom the thought that this isn't it I want to rip my darn hair out now grrr just when I thought I finally got it right

Given the images posted, I'm seeing Machine Doubling. Suggest comparing variety vista '72 D pics with your example (which appear to show flat/shelf-like doubling).

What I'm about to say won't be very encouraging -- I've looked through millions and millions of coins over several decades, and have found only 10 or so legitimate doubled die examples (strong examples not needing 50X magnification or better to see). Not much better when it comes to repunched mint marks either. Hang in there and enjoy the circuitous numismatic journey.

If you looked at this page and all you saw were DDO's and DDR's and RPM's all the time...they wouldn't be that rare.
That's what make it fun for me...
You don't see them all the time...and when someone shows us one...we're excited for them...

First, welcome to the Forum.
My advise is: be patient, stick around and you'll learn more than you've expected about this hobby like most of us by participating in the topics and learning from different posts and the site's experts responses.
It can be frustrating when you think you've found something,you get all excited about your find and then it turns out not it is what you expected, it has happened to all of us and will continue to happen.

I know what you feel and agree with you. You start looking at the coins with one of the most hard side and not really valuable, except someone.

I am a collector, not an living from and also researcher on design varieties and coin production and metallurgical facts of the coins. The branch you choice from the point of view of an collector, is collectable but not many go on. The reason it is are to many for all years and an full collection will be very hard to achieve. DD it is a variety yes, but many for same year and only few I know has after 30 and more years just 60% of the possibilities. A collector want all the set which could be: by years (mint production, design, majors errors). I give you an example: I am at 2 missing to achieve: The Quarters from 1956 till 1972 Reverse design (cost me till now approx. 500$). Till now three in the collector circle achieve the goal and the last on private sell was 1.2 mill (condition of the coins account). Others which not far I see look for Wheat cent Mint mark position, very nice collection.

Do not desperate, this it is a hobby which can reward you. Just start from put by years and Mint marks.

I hope you will not give up and also I hope you do not broke a Piggy nice saving porcelain.

I was frustrated when I found out this is just Machine Doubling because I love this hobby so much and I don't do it for the money I do it because I enjoy it and love to find new interesting errors. I'm never going to give up on it that just isn't in me but I'm still going to hold on to these machine doubled coins because I really don't find them as much as people say they do. Plus I find them interesting seven though it's just Mechanical Doubling. Anywho I'll be posting a bunch more now that I've figured out how to resize my photos with this app I found.
