Same, never heard of such an animal, unless you're referring to a Henning nickel.

Jimmy d, I don't think that would be true because regular nickels are not affected by magnets

The Henning nickel is a counterfeit - the most easily recognized date (of several) is 1944 because it lacks the large "P" mintmark of a genuine 1944 silver nickel.

Does any one know how to tell the difference?

Weight. Off-metal planchets almost certainly weigh different amounts.

In MS condition and higher, 35% War Nickels have an obviously different paler white color.

When very worn, they often display obviously differentially darker patches in those areas where they are worn. That is due to the differential toning of the copper and manganese in the alloy.

I am rather fond of War Nickels, because they are one of very few coins anywhere in the World that have manganese in the alloy.

What it is the weight of the coin? By the weight we can determine if the coin was struck on foreign planchet. For 1944 are 4 possibilities if the diameter it is 19 mm.
