Nice find. Hard to believe it found that much circulation prior to discovery. The doubling is very obvious.

This is a GREAT find, mrwhatisit! You found it while I was out of CRH commission for nine months (had surgery on my left hand and wrist for cubital tunnel syndrome/ulnar nerve entrapment last August). Very happy that I was able to join this exclusive club at the end of last week!

Congratulations! - These are indeed a difficult coin to find.

During my 394,800 nickel searching quest to complete my CRH set I found a total of 221 Philly mint 1939 Jefferson.

I carefully checked each of the 221 coins for this DDR and guess how many I found?

Zero, Nana, Zilch, Nothing, Struck Out.

I actually just brought mrwhatisit's old thread back to life... since I completely missed it when I was on the CRH disabled list for 9 months.

Hey, nickelsearcher! Good to see you around!

I was 0 for 423 on my 1939 P Jeffersons until the 424th one finally gave me this modern rarity.

This of course is the current top coin I have ever found coin roll hunting in terms of numismatic value to us collectors...
This is not the only major variety I have found for really cheap, two of my favorites other than this one was a 1909-VDB DDO-001 found in probable mint state for $4.00 at an estate sale with a coin collection attached, and a 1942 DDR Walking Liberty half dollar in AU-55 for $13.00... I have separate threads on both of these finds here.

Oh yeah, feel very free any of you others resurrecting my older threads here, it moves the awareness around on legitimate coin errors vs not errors as we are very used to seeing here.
