Can you provide a photo of the edge of the coin. From the second photo this looks to be a partial collar error.
1924-d is a semi-key date so a nice coin in and of itself. This error should allow some premium.

Looks like a large MAD to me, large enough to loose the L in liberty. The thing that is throwing me off is what looks like the presence of a second rim starting to form, that and the reverse seems very weakly struck compared to the obverse. beyond me lol, maybe coop or Mike diamond but probably someone here knows exactly what's going on.

The rim I suppose would have to be a partial collar, either that it the collar broke due to the pressure of the MAD allowing the metal to flow outside the collar. It does not look completely round so this is my guess.

Very interesting. Would it be possible to determine an accurate weight? Thanks.

that is odd looking for sure.
BUT you are getting the oils from your hands all over that coin - fingerprints once set in are permanent

That would be my guess. I wouldn't be too concerned about fingerprint oils with this amount of circulation wear.

Where the planchet is not in the collar, the metal will expand wider on that area. The edge will show this on a partial collar.

Partial reeds will show also on a partial collar:

Would this still be partially attributed to a MAD? The L I. Liberty would be where the rim is but the reverse alignment seems fine.

No, the part outside of the collar, will expand larger than the area inside of the collar. The planchet is not fully in the collar.

Note the area outside of the collar enlarges on the coin.

That is pretty cool and definitely worthy of a 2x2. Thx for sharing.

Now I see the expansion of the planchet, very nice partial collar. acetone then 2x2 is what I would do with that coin.
