nice RPM! As for the clip, I think it is a real one after seeing the edge pic. The clip could have been rounder before the strike, but the pressure most likely pushed the rim portions of the clip closer together as the metal moved to form the design.

Any other devices affected like that on that area in that direction. It could be movement in the chamber from the clip on the planchet? So the jury is still out for me. I agree with the clips on the planchet, but want to rule out movement of the planchet, in the collar during the strike. What concerns me it the shape of the SE bottom edge of the mintmark. Never seen something like that before. It maybe a single coin issue, where a RPM will show this on every coin struck with that die.

for a clip that size I'd expect some distortion of the devices nearest the clip, but none is visible, so IMO it's PMD

Sometimes the movement is farthest from the area in question. IE on the setup on a blank, where the clip is, there will be a weakness on the opposite side of the coin, because there was no pressure to form that edge, called a Blakesley affect. Not sure if that pertains to this issue during the strike. So if is was a RPM, there would be a million copies of it out there. It is was planchet movement, it could happen on only one coin. (this is what makes me question it being a RPM)

I agree on both clips. Strange shape but the cut edge is from a punch. You can see the vertical lines from the cut. Don't know of any punches that would be that strange shape. So it started out as a round clip, and as stated above the metal moved into the clip when it was struck. And it is a strange MM.

I agree it's a double clip for all the reasons Yokozuna mentioned.

If this clip happened before the strike, I would expect the devices adjacent the clip to taper like in coop's image below, but they don't.

Weird for sure, if it was don't post mint it would have been done with some expensive tools I'd guess. This is out of my range if knowledge and have seen some odd clips but this one is unique to my eyes so I won't comment further. I'll keep my eyes here for a conclusive answer

Definitely legitimate! You can see the blakesley effect in the area I circled. Also guys on large clips it doesn't have to be present to make it a legitimate clip.

Thanks again for the responses here. It does seem to be oddball looking clip but a genuine one anyways. I've web searched for similar shaped clips and haven't really found any.

It's a legitimate curved (concave) clip. They sometimes assume shapes that deviate from a perfect curve.
