How many reports does ebay have to get before they take down a listing?

One, if it's the right one.

ebay doesn't care.

Well, they're gone.

WOW. That was a lot of listings. I would think the seller should be banned.

thanks for your feedback and assistance! I'll chime in again later but thought y'all would get a kick out of this one, rshilkowski responded to my 2nd comment to him:

You'd think if he genuinely had no idea about these dimes being counterfeit he would have at least compared the "9" to a slabbed example.

Wonder if they will show back up under a different seller name?

ebay does care, but they must rely on trusted sources. Imagine trying to sell anything that was ever made without input from informed readers like us. Doubters who speak up offer at least a slim chance of halting sales by scammers.

Nice catch, yes the 1921-d 9 is closed and the 2 looks off as a start. The nose and face looks off so its certainly questionable that is it authentic. It does make one wonder why such a key date that has value over grading fees in any condition would not be sent in. The seller has 100% feedback with quite a lot of sales so its very interesting

Send him a link to this thread, these are so fake it's not even funny.

Pretty good fakes though. I wonder how many people by those.

one_fine_dime, I reported the seller and each of the auctions except the 1938-S. The closed 9 on the earlier ones is a giant red flag. What should I be seeing on the 38-S that would clue me in?
Thank you for your time and bringing this issue to us.

@HondoBoguss -
I accidentally purchased this coin on ebay a few years ago, realized it was counterfeit after purchase and returned it no problem, and the seller was very sorry to have inadvertently sold a counterfeit. Unlike this cocky dealer who is in denial (he may know exactly what he is doing).

I didn't get the screen grab the 1938-S, but yes, since the font changed in the later twenties, that one would normally have a closed nine. The giveaway is the "3" in this case, it looks very much like the "3" in 1923-S, on the photos here, which is quite different font style than on an authentic 1930s Mercury dime.

Only a couple of images available from the posted listings but this area doesn't look correct on either of these:

Unfortunately for this buyer, ebay did not take action quickly enough.

Is that a split from the five to 6 o'clock position? Can't say that I've ever saw that if it is.

It's a shame, but ultimately you use usually have to learn the hard way that you should research before you buy.
