There are a great many highly desirable moderns not on the list. Coins like DCam 1965 cents are extremely rare and highly distinct from other coins. There is a unique 1964 clad quarter in AU. To me this is the king of moderns. How appropriate that it is only AU so has circulated as all clad has. There are numerous rare PL's of all denominations some of which have multiple characteristics of proofs. There are numerous "common" varieties with populations of a few hundred to a few thousand found in mint sets like '74-D DDO 50c, '69-D/ D 10c, '88-P RR 50c, '71-D/ D 10c, not to mention many moderns that are scarce even in Gem because most of the coins were struck by worn tired dies that were poorly adjusted. Then there are varieties made only for circulation that are scarce despite huge mintages because nobody noticed. This would include coins like the type "h" quarters from the '70's. Indeed most modern varieties not found in mint sets are quite scarce in high grades like XF.

Don't forget that most of these coins were ugly when they left the mint because they were so poorly made so finding attractive specimens of rare coins can be exceedingly difficult.

Then on top of all this are the numerous special issues many of which appear on the greatest list.

Moderns have everything and what I always liked the best was the lack of competition. I could wander into a coin show an hour late and be sure all the coins I wanted were still there. I showed up early anyway, though. ;)

The only ones I have from the list is a '70-S sm dt in superb Gem+, A '70-D half in superb Gem and PL, several '74-D DDO 50c but nothing that stands out, And an '82-NMM 10c with a virtually flawless strike and Gem.

I like the list but there are 30 or 40 coins that I don't consider among the "greatest". They are all highly desirable though.

As an example there are '88-D cents that are indistinguishable from proofs. The best of them are also free of marking and frosty.

I guess I like "greatest coins" to be a little more available and a lot less expensive.

I believe these markets are going to surprise people some day because of the scarcity and desirability of so many of the coins. Someday I expect there to be a lot more collectors for ALL of these coins. Collectors have ignored these coins so long it's hard to imagine the demand could decrease.

Ah! I also have a couple of the 1996-W Roosevelt dimes. This is #88 on the list and quite easy to find!

I've got a few. I used to have a lot more on the current list, but over the past couple years I've sold off my bullion coins and my complete sets of gold and silver modern commemoratives...

This list is a bit outdated as the newest coin listed is 2011. There have been some better rarities since then.
