This is a coin I found online and was looking to buy, but I needed to know if it looked authentic to anyone else. This is all the photos that were posted. Thank you all.

Is-This-A-Good-Specimen-Of-The-1972-P-Penny-DDO?
Looks like a 1972 DDO-003 from what I can see.
The 2 on the date is a clue.

DDO-003 Stage D. Die scratches in and around 19 in the date seem pretty close. Thanks, Doug.

Coop is correct. The coin is obviously a doubled die, and the only question is which one. This is DDO-003 in stage C or later. So to answer your original question, it is not "the" 1972 doubled die, which I suppose would mean the big DDO-001, but it is "a" doubled die and a fairly strong one at that. But huge price difference between 001 and 003. Is it a good example? Who knows since you can't see most of the coin in the photos.

I just sold one of these at auction on ebay last week. Coin was a strong MS65 and sold for $27. That's pretty low for how nice the coin was. I have one up now that's not as nice, maybe a solid MS63 or low 64, and it is currently at $46. That's too high for the coin and folks should have been paying more attention to the better one last week. But that's how auctions work. So in your case $39 would be in the zone, but why would you buy a coin you can't see?

Make sure these aren't "stock" photos... make sure this is what you'll actually receive. FYI.
