Well, those must be from coin roll hunting, and it is always nice to see a Buffalo nickel even though the one you found is common. To answer Joshu-a is that is a Mexican 5 pesos...

Sweet finds @shark! A buffalo for face value is a good deal indeed.

Congrats on the find! And the Mexican coin is a 1 peso which has a diameter almost the same as a nickel (21mm vs. 21.2mm).

At current exchange rates the peso is actually worth about 5-1/2 cents, so you came out a little ahead on that one...

Congrats! It's always nice to find a Buffalo. And one with a date to boot! A lot of them are dateless.

The easiest way to hook them up with dates is to give them a few days in some vinegar... works about 90% of the time.

Just started hunting nickels. I'm currently on my 3rd box. I was previously searching only quarters. My best finds so for in the nickels:

-1907 V nickel
- 1937 Buffalo
- 1974 on a clipped planchet
- I have also found 3 War Nickels

My best finds in the quarters so for:

- 1983-P Spitting Eagle
- 1954-S My first silver. Took me 19 boxes to find.
