There's a good chance the haze will come off in alcohol/ acetone. The black spots probably will not.

Fingerprint oils would have left fingerprints. Try 100% pure acetone and se what if anything happens. I do not think the album is to blame either.

I think I know the answer to this... What do the surrounding coins look like?

An environmental issue of some sort for sure - perhaps caused by elements in the album's construction.

I thought Dansco was a top brand?

My take on the folders being at least partially to blame is based on FTW's
statement of the coins being in the Dansco for decades, so I take in consideration the material used Decades ago.

Top picture looks as if it was on its way for some beautiful toning! But to get rid of it try a little dip with some Ezest. People will tell you it ruins coin (which I disagree if you follow directions) But in in your mind it's ruined anyway what's the difference? At least it will be nicer to look at and all you're really doing is preserving it. Acetone may be good for dirt or oil build up but rarely if ever for haze or toning. if it were me I'd probably put it back in the album comeback to it in a couple years and see if it had some great eye appealing toning.

It is, but it matters how and where you store these albums. My oldest Dansco albums are almost 40 years old, nothing like this has happened to the coins in them.

There is only 1 other coin in the album with this haze toning, but it wasn't as severe.

The rest are all good.

I agree it may have been something already on the coin and time allowed it to progress to what you see. It would be interesting to see if acetone (or alcohol) had any affect on its appearance.

I will give it an acetone bath when I get home from work later.
