That's a very nice mother-in-law! Made me think of my late mother-in-law; we shared a passion for coins, antiques and old artifacts, and she gave me many interesting things over the years because she knew I wouldn't just turn around and sell them but would treasure them myself!

Sweet pick-up! Will you keep it free or slab it?

Wow, and to think of all the bad things men have said about their mothers-in-laws over the years...

Any idea where she got the coins? It doesn't sound like she had any interest in it.
My mother-in-law did the same and gave me a bunch of commemorative Thailand coins and currency. Not much value but very interesting and beautiful coins. She has since passed away so they're a good memory and something for my kids in the future.

I've had a lot of stuff given to me, so I have no problem giving it away to my kids. Some of it was valuable, some of it was junk no one wanted. Lots of trips to the dump after my dad died.
However it didn't come from my mother-in-law. That is unusual.

@kppbll the 1914 D was given to her from my Wife's grandmother (who is still alive and well) and loves me to death. @spence I plan on keeping it encapsulated raw ungraded for now.
I have a great relationship with my entire family and extended family.
Growing up, all the girls I dated their parents always liked me. Same with friends parents.
I was taught to never give people a reason to distrust, the definition of integrity was always said. Money means nothing, others come before any amount of money and time is more valuable than anything on earth be wise how you spend it. Oh and my dad always said "Think Before you do things!" A lot!

As do I...I'm often saddened when I hear others talk disparaging about their family members. I'm blessed that I was raised in a loving family...and happy you were also! What a great Mother in law! smat

Beautiful Saint Gaudins! Everybody needs one. My daughters boyfriend gave me a box of coins left in a house he bought that the previous owners left behind. Nothing as nice as your haul but some cool old Mercury dimes, a few Morgan and Peace silver dollars and a bunch of miscellaneous coins and mint sets. Free coins are sweet. ... then they broke up but I still have the coins &

@Pmint you win some, you lose some. Sometimes a loss is a gain in disguise. I got hosed on a counterfeit state quadruple struck quarter (just found out from PCGS yesterday) but the St. Gaudens makes up for the pain.

Dang buddy, swindling the old mother in law outta thousands, touche.
Jokes side,
I would definitely give her some cash, regardless of their financial situation.
