SMS coins do not have mint marks, your 1964-D Kennedy half is a circulated business strike coin.

Please post a link to the information you read about the 1964 SMS coins being found in circulation.

None have been found in circulation, wherever you heard that is just wrong.

@nick10 the information that I found says all 10 that have been found have been found in circulation so to say that there's not any in circulation is ridiculous

That statement is ridiculous. Wherever you saw that, don't EVER go back to that site. They were all found in the Estate of Eva Adams, mint director during the 60s. They weren't even found until around 1990 when she died. Then they were all sent to be graded by Stacks Bowers.

You have a better chance of getting struck by lightning 4 days in a row than finding ANY 1964 SMS in circulation.

We all want to find the special coin for our collection or to make some money on . Often a new collector finds something and goes to u-tube, coin shops, ebay or third party know it alls to get opinions and values on their finds, that is where they get disinformation. I did the same thing until I found this site, I have for three years now tried to learn from this site and am convinced that no matter what is said outside this site,, I always take with a grain of salt. I have made my share of mistakes but I always listen to the long time experts here. So, you will not be misled by the people here. Try to accept their teachings you will be a better collector.

oddguy, your answer should be the golden rule of coin collecting, and this site. This should be the first response to 90% of the new topics that are started here.

Unless you bought it from Eva Adams' estate, no, not an SMS. As others have said, these were never in circulation.

Well, that's really not true. Stacks had them all certified and sold them off. They come up for sale occasionally, but you won't find one in circulation.

@Bobby true, but by the time they were sold they were all slabbed and authenticated. I meant the only way one would have a raw one that they needed to identify would be if they bought it from Eva Adams' estate.
