Neat! My initial thought was a "slug" strikethrough but I do like the other options.

Why does the movie "Tremors" come to mind? Nice looking error all the way around.

I may kick myself later from missing something obvious, but why, since this is a strike through, and the coin would have been sitting in the REV die at the time, is there a flattened area on the REV side that corresponds to the area on the front that is a strike though? Something like this indicates the coin was not sitting on a flat surface and not the REV die when the front pattern was made?

Earle, The strike through is kind of secondary to the fact the coin is struck on [original wording here was "through" which is of course wrong] a split planchet and weighs only 1.78g. Of course there are weak spots.

This cent was not struck THROUGH a split planchet; it was struck ON a split planchet. The struck-in piece of copper is a nice bonus.

Dang, I was just re-reading this thread and caught that exact error! Thanks Mike, I mis-spoke on that bit and will change the text to read correctly. Downside of reading and typing fast when busy I suppose, but thanks for the correction as it matters.
