Dnickles, who actually calculated out the algorithm (I think... plus you told me...), was just off (he switched the number as 75, not 57). Thanks to all who played! And PM sent to ImTheCrew! So, here's the actual note. On the back, the Serial is U33257884802. U stands for issued by the Bank of France (the printing country does not have to be the same as the central bank). U is the 21st letter, so 21+3+3+2+5+7+8+8+4+8+0+2 = 71, and 7+1 = 8, which is equal to 8 and therefore is the checksum. Without the 21, so 50 and then 5+0 = 5 is the checksum for France. And that's how the serial number works. ... and then on the front... Is the printer code. The code for this one is L054E1. L is the printer identifier, or Banque de France printers (one of the last central bank owned printers) and 054 stands for the 54th plate produced for the EUR 20. E is the row number, and 1 is the column number. So, this note in a sheet would be 5 down, first across. Again, thanks to all who played and congrats ImTheCrew! Report this Post to the Staff
