Very interesting!

I will need to add this to my list. I have several branches of German ancestry which came to Pennsylvania in the early to mid 1700s. This is from both my grandfathers.

There's a bronze version BIN auction on ebay for $30.

Fascinating commems. I never heard of this medal and learned a good bit from reading about it.

I'm hopeful from your introductory paragraph this thread represents the beginning of a new series with a focus on these types of medals.

@jbuck .... pay attention to the reverse details commems shares, specifically:

I'm willing to bet this is an Ike you don't currently have!

Thank you, but I am going to wait until the next coin show first. There are a handful of dealers with a nice selection of medals. I have been building a list and would love to find something there.

Indeed! I was going to mention it, but felt it was a little too on brand for me, opting to focus on my genealogical connection.

Works now, thanks! Those are very interesting. For whatever reason I really enjoy first day covers.

World War II was just a minor misunderstanding among friends!

And who can even remember WWI?

Yes, what is a few million people killed or wounded between friends?

Thanks! I don't get too many comments over there - I don't think my philatelic interests are hardcore enough!

I do enjoy relaying a bit of US history with my posts, however.

Looking back, this proposal seems almost absurd.

Same. I have lurked a few times, but have never felt and urge to chime in unless a CCF crossover post is involved.
