Thank you for the update! That was why I wanted you to read the link I gave you earlier in your thread, this particular anomaly is a mixed bag.

Keep us informed.

Im not sure, but once I was looking information on how to submit an coin for attribution on coppercoin.com then I read they aren't taking any coin from the public. So make sure you can send your coin to coppercoin.com

Also not sure about this, but I thought cooper.com was only for cents.

My apologies for this image, because it is a screenshot, but I tried to download it and did not let me do it, so I have to take a screenshot.

Thanks Gigi2110... you are correct regarding coppercoin.com I will not be submitting to them. And Makecents, I did read the link you provided, thankyou So I wasn't taken aback by the comments I received. But I do hope when Wexler is back on line I might get a different response.

You are correct gigi2110, thanks for bringing this to our attention. I'm used to working with cents for the most part and made a mistake when giving this link to A1agrl. Sorry folks.

Update. I have been in contact with Mr. Tanner Scott of Wexler's and was informed the site will be accepting coins for attribution of doubled dies and other errors towards the end of November 2024. He agreed my coin is interesting, and does want to see it. He also mentioned that Wexler's is not likely to list any new 'hot lips' dime varieties, until they complete a study of the anomaly, since there is doubt by some as to its being a DDO, a clash, or something else.

I may be wrong, but by looking at the last pic it almost looks like a polishing issue.

After a bit of time, I sent my 1964, (possible) hot lips dime to Mr. Tanner Scott of Wexler's Double Die's for attribution, here are the results:

"The 1964 10¢ "Hot Lips" variety is not a DDO, but Abrasion doubling. These varieties were likely caused by excessive die polishing (die abrasion doubling) done to remove die clash marks. This would explain the strong correlation between these varieties and die clashes and explain why the doubled lips do not align with overlays of the reverse. This coin shows strong doubling in front of the lips that extends around and under the chin. There are two notable gaps in this doubling under the chin that align with expected clash marks from the upper olive leaves on the reverse. These gaps would not appear like this if the doubling were due to a doubled die."

Mr. Scott thanked me for sending him the coin, which he said was a great help in studying these varieties. With the evidence gathered from this coin, Wexler's has decided to delist five of the 'hot lips' varieties from the doubled die files, with the changes to be published in the next site update.

Thanks for giving us an update, the outcome was what I expected though, that's why I gave you the first link that I did. Tanner knows his stuff, so I would feel assured about his assessment. Good work and keep up the search!

So, instead of a new die variety, thanks to you there are now fewer!

Would you have preferred that you had a found a new one?

It was my hope to find a new variety, and I was encouraged by the forum to pursue attribution. When Wexler's came back with it's findings, I was surprised. I never expected a negative impact on the previously established DDO varieties. But the purpose of this forum is to seek, confirm and educate. We all love a winner, but must also accept negative findings. I have learned a lot from my little coin's great odyssey.

You did well, A1agrl. It is just as important to delist and debunk as it is to have new discoveries. We should always want to know the truth, regardless of the outcome. Numismatics is an evolving study.
