My avatar is a Clark, Gruber, & Co. five dollar gold piece. C,G, and Co. was the major assay company in Colorado at the start of the gold rush in 1859. Their supply of gold came from the Pike's Peak gold district around Denver (not the Pike's Peak area, that was in the 1890s)and since Colorado was only a territory at the time, they set up a private mint for gold coinage.
The reason that I chose this avatar is the fact that my dad grew up in the shadow of Pikes Peak in Manitou Springs and C, G, and Co. coins are the only ones to depict Pike's Peak. To this day, that area is one of the most scenic parts of the US I have ever visited.

My picture is the OBVERSE (eagle side) of my favorite counterfeit Cap and Ray Eight Reale. This one is an 1834 Zs OM but there is another pairing dated 1842 Zs OM. The eagle is thin so I refer to it as a "Chicken Eagle". It is one of the most widely circulated and believable of the forgeries listed in Riddell. It was made before 1844 and contains 70% silver. They are still very common and appear in collections and shops as real all the time.
Just in case anyone was wondering - in Mexico the OBVERSE of the coin is the side that shows the Aztec National symbol and the name of the country - not the date side with the Cap and Rays. That is just opposite to the US convention.

My avitar is The Australian "Year of the Rooster" Coloured Edition. 2oz pure Silver (99.9%)coin. This one is number 00544 (Certificate of Authenticity). Only 1,000 of these coins were released in Australia out of a worldwide mintage of 28,000. Of course there were coloured 1 oz coins as well. This coin has what is called a Specimen finish. "The chinese believe people born in the Year of the Rooster are Honest, hardworking and talented. Never afraid to speak their mind, stylish Roosters are also independent and self Reliant." (I was born in the year of the rabbit) "Coloured elements on the coin's reverse depict a rooster with the rising sun and the flower of a camellia, a Chinese native plant. The design also includes the year-date, the chinese character for "rooster", and a boarder of bats and clouds symbolising health, peace and prosperity." Here is a better picture. I like the softer colours of the flowers and the details on the rooster.

Man! Australia sure does come up with some amazing coin designs. I've always admired the Canadian coins but I've never really seen any Australian before. Very nice. Anyway... mine is a 1927-D Standing Liberty quarter. In my opinion the biggest sleeper in the series. Third lowest mintage but goes for common prices. I've got a bone to pick with J.H. Cline about that.
