Excellent roll find and I actually like the look of the obverse.

Would DOCC's techniques work on this coin?

This coin underwent a first phase DOCC treatment prior to these photos.

This initial wash seemed to clean it up a bit. If the coin gets dramatically better over the next couple weeks I'll update here with photos.

Nice example on a 'been around the block' nickel.

Excellent find CoinHI.

I'm guessing that is a dirt coin that someone has already processed and thrown back into circulation. Has the appearance of a Peroxide bath.

Based on images I do not think you'll get very far with Alkali washing, very little buildup left to remove (above Monticello). Looks to be surface oxidation/staining, it is virtually impossible to naturally return CuproNickel to its original silver coloration.

I swing a metal detector and have a knack for finding dirty old coins.

Thanks for the feedback DOCC!

Side note: It looks like you can make out the faint outline of the secondary MM curve going through the primary MM. I attached a collage showing what I think I'm seeing.

I'm not sure why the horizontal D would cut through the upright D. It seems most likely that the correct D was punched second. Also, the upright D stands higher above the field, so the shallower first punch should not cut through its top surface.

I think it's probably just a very coincidentally placed ding. But I could certainly be wrong about that.

The curve of the horizontal D does appear to cross the base of the normal D.
I can agree with the sequence of which came first, but if the horizontal D was tilted that could account for the curve of it ending up deeper on the die than the normal D.
