Alright Now That I Can't Order Penny Boxes At The Bank What Are The Best Ways To Get Rolls, Etc

Zinckel is a good nickname. I like it.

I bet 2027 will be the year for a composition change of the nickel. Either nickel plated steel or zinc and I don't care which as I won't collect them anyway. Same approach to them as my small 3.1g copper cent sets. They run from 1864-1942 and 1944-1982. No plated junk allowed, even 1943s.


Side note: McDonalds near me in MI are now doing Canadian style rounding on cash transactions.

It is really getting hard to get any Lincoln cents. Tonight, I went with my wife to Walmart for groceries. I took one item through a manned checkout and paid with cash hoping to get a few cents. Unfortunately, they are rounding to the nearest nickel. Got a couple of cents off the price but no Lincoln cents!

Went to the customer service said that since they are not using Lincoln cents anymore could I purchase all the remaining cents they had on hand. The answer was not no but hell no... said they only had 6 rolls in the whole building and would not part with them. I could not figure out why not....What a sad day.

I would assume they are hanging on to them for irate customers who insist on exact change, Fsd.

That's definitely going to happen, especially with older folks.

Nickels will be my next focus, but I still have pennies to sort out!

I'm still getting pennies as change at most places where I am much to my surprise-Giant Eagle (of course!) and Meijers to name a few. I'm paying cash in those places in the hope I get pennies and so far have been successful.

One thing I'm starting to do is provide rolls of pennies to the smaller stores in the area to help them out and they seem to really appreciate it! I find it actually fun to see the cashier's faces light up when I come in with some rolls. I chuckle at I think about how they kind of hated when I brought in rolls in the past and now they are so happy to see pennies! lol

2)Another thought! My relatives know I'm a "copper hoarder", so I'll be asking them for holiday gifts that come in rolls. My brother coming to visit from Maine may have trouble getting through security if he really loves me!

3)Try trading for rolls of cents at your favorite local businesses.

4)Stand guard by the Coinstar with a sign around your neck saying "Will work for cents!"

I was fortunate to come across about 2000 rolls (paid a premium) and then another 180 rolls (face value) about 2 months ago. I have them in 5 gal buckets with lids.
The large hoard came from a lady that put them up by dates with her late husband, ending in about 2013. They speculated they would make a killing, like what happened with silver after 1964. It didn't work out for her since they took up so much space, and she couldn't really find any other buyers two months ago. (Just this sucker.)
Most are grouped by 1960-1969, 1970-1979, 1980-2008 (or 83-08). Some of the more modern dated rolls they marked as "Uncir." but I've corrected the rolls to "RED", which is more accurate.

Best of luck in your search for cents to search.
