That's a really cool medal, Everest! I had never seen it before - thank you for sharing it with us.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Very unique piece--nice! Interesting choice of vegetation depicted on the medal--appear to be Saguaro cactus. The Saguaro are typically limited to the Sonoran Desert region, a habitat located well south of the Lincoln Highway route. Still, a cool medal!

Beautiful medal!

From the reverse, it looks like the trip took 43 days. I've done that drive from Chicago to San Francisco, and even now, it's a long three-day drive (or a road-warrior-brutal two-day drive). Driving it recreationally 50-60 miles a day back then would have been interesting. Maybe the modern equivalent would be a multi-day recreational bicycle ride, like Iowa's RAGBRAI. Those antique cars aren't exactly comfortable or dependable, so it might have been more like driving a washing machine over rocks in a hurricane, while having to tune and repair the washing machine multiple times. Quite the feat back then!

79 silver medals were issued before the end of the exhibition. A gold medal was awarded for the best story and a silver
cup was awarded for the best photograph. 27 different types of automobiles made the trip. Four women made the trip and
two sets of brothers.
In 1916 Motor magazine extended the offer for trips to the San Diego International exhibition. 44 silver medals were
awarded. One adventurous soul a Mrs. A.H. Woods from New York city made both trips driving a Pierce-Arrow.
