High AU (58). Looks like a lot of lightly circulated 79-O and 84-S Morgans I've seen over the years. Those look like they circulated for a few days and were bagged back up and sent back to the Treasury vaults for storage for some mysterious reason. This coin would fit into that group to my old man's eyes. Still a nice coin no matter how it grades!

I wanna say 64 but I got to stay at 63 because of Cheek chatter and eye appeal with color.

Odee, if you come back to this, here is a teaching moment.

there a couple areas that point to circulation. first is the cheek. look at the horizontal swipe marks. that doesn't occur in a bag by banging against other coins. they are too evenly spaced and too long. add to that all of the luster has been rubbed off in that area

the highest points of the hair above the forehead also has signs of wear as well as the tops of the kernels. these are more delicate signs and not that easy to discern

on the rev look at the edges of the wings. almost all of them show signs of circulation. especially the tips.

this is a lightly circulated coin and for new collector poses a real challenge to assess it but could cost someone a lot of $$ if the difference between AU58 and MS63 is significant.

Is this 1886-S VAM-2? If so, you have a Top 100 Morgan.

AU-58 looks spot on.
