the closeups look good. looks like obv die #4. the VDB looks look as well. I think you have an authentic 09S VDB AU55 possibly AU58 this one needs to go in. from experience I know PCGS is tough on these so I'm not sure who I would send it to you. maybe NGC. anyone here have a choice as to the best TPG for it? if it grades straight could in the $1900 range

you can see how photos can alter what we are seeing, angles and lighting are critical for an accurate assessment. if you send it in repost it with the grade and reference this post.

This one needs to go to a TPG and worth the money to do so. Something looks off about this coin but I can't say what. Surfaces look odd and so does the rim but might just be photo lighting. Mint mark looks like an obverse #4.

I'm thinking it's legit--excellent example. TPG, here 'we' come...

I like the way it looks to be some slight lamination cracks around the VDB area.......

Marv65 Yes I see that. Would that effect the grade?

Not at all. You only see it from the high magnification, TPGs only use 5x or 10x to grade with.

I missed the drama earlier in this thread, but I'm happy that it turns out to be a legit 09S VDB. Congratulations!
It must feel great to complete this set. This coin and the 14D are holding me back from completing my Lincoln set. At this point, I doubt I will pull the trigger on either coin. But you never know! I would happily put this coin ungraded into my Dansco album with all the others.

Bump111 The 14d was the last one I bought, it was a huge relief to finish. I started the book 1909- 1940 when I was 27. Thirty years later I have completed 1909-2025. I have probably 6k wheats left over from all the years lol
