Jefferson has the slimmest edge over Buffalo for me. Jefferson was the first nickel folder I got and it was filled before I moved them to a Dansco album. The Buffalo folder only had a few at that time I moved it, but I eventually finished that set as well.

Yes my favorite is the Buffalo, evidently like the majority of us. I will add I love the look of mint state Jefferson War Nickels as well; the addition of some silver gives them a special gleam. I believe we get interest in coins as kids and what little boy doesn't love Buffalo nickels

Although I have collected quite a few valuable Jefferson nickels, the design aesthetic simply cannot compete with the Buffalo nickel. Both the Indian and the Buffalo are a beautiful representation of America's early 20th century obsession with settling the West.

The Buffalo nickel is for sure the best design of any nickel, IMO, although I also enjoy the Three Cent Nickel series. Arguably, the Buffalo nickel is the most distinctly American design of any US coin. For those reasons, I selected the Buffalo as my favorite nickel. I have a set of Jefferson nickels, but they don't bring me as much joy as Buffalos.

Quote: What is your favorite nickel? Had you asked "nickel design/type," I'm with the majority ... Buffalo. However, you included CN Three Cent pieces as an option, so, why not the CN Indian cents, I thought? Then, given my preoccupation with counterstamps, I immediately thought of my first and favorite c/s issue, being the specific issue that started me on the road to seriously collecting this genre ... I was/am also into Civil War tokens, and this "nickel" issue is a listed CW token from Erie, PA. Thus, it was doubly interesting to me when acquired; this, now fifty years ago. I then lived but an hour's drive from Erie, so I researched Wm. Bell in the library there. My first counterstamp article was later written about him and published in the journal of the Civil War Token Society. Funny, how a meandering collector's mind works, and one thing leads to another, eh what?
