Oh I agree 100%. He made a heck of a find! I'm just hoping he isn't being chastized for underpaying on an item when he didn't know the value at the time. That's why I brought it up. :)

For only $10 you definitely stole that one!

Sorry - I couldn't resist.

He STOLE it from me because I hadn't made it to that garage sale yet I was still going around NH at garage sales. I'm sure I would have found it eventually when I made it to the NY garage sales.

Lighten up, he got a fantastic deal. And no one from what I read, is accusing him of robbing someone of their coins.

I was checking KY garage sales, but I did have the idea that I was going to check some NY garage sales yesterday, so maybe it was stolen from ME! All kidding aside, there are thousands of people that go around to garage and yard sales looking to find something to make a quick buck (or couple hundred) from. If you pay what the seller asks, you aren't stealing to me. I have no problem capitalizing on ignorance, but that is just me. Back when I was buying and selling sports cards I found a small baggie of old hockey cards at a yard sale that cost me $5. Sold the Wayne Gretzky rookie card inside for something like $500. People need to do their homework, and those that do stand to make extra money, or add to their collections for a minimal cost.

Nice find.
I would frequent garage sales if I could but my struggle is, I refuse to bring myself down to the same level of everybody else and think that garage sales means you can park however and where ever you want with no regards to the flow of normal traffic.
Its the same thing for real-estate agents who feel they can stop when-ever where-ever to put up the open house signs.
It just amazes me the lack of comprehension and ownership some people have over their decisions.
On another note someone told me those outdoor farmers auctions and flea markets are good potentials as well.

Nice find! As far as stealing it goes, I guess I am a thief also Cause I paid a dealers asking price of $13 for a 1921 Peace dollar he had in a pick bin at the coin show I was at yesterday. (pics to follow in another thread)

WD1040 - the sets, particularly the 1999, had a low mintage. Thats why they're so expensive.

Went to the US mint in philly and bought two in 1999. Sold one on ebay for 80 dollars in 2001 and thought I was smart. Still have one but found to my horror that the nickel has a toning spot, how much does that reduce the value of the set? It's a patch of light gold on the reverse. Let's hear it for the US mint's packaging!!

PS - NICE FIND, enjoy that!!

WOW. Great find. Someone had to find that set but wish it was me. Now start watching that house for more sales. You never know.
Reminds me of when I found a jar of old pennies, bottom full of Indian cents. I offered $50, sold. Face value was about $35 but the newest coin was in the 50's.
I love garage/yard/estate sales and flea markets.

you say it had no packaging but it shows the outside package in the photo, is this just a picture of one like yours or is it actually the one you bought? the reason I ask is because you said you bought each case seperate for a total of $10.00 and had no packaging or COA. Is both of the back grounds red?

Yes, they are both red. I just took a stock photo from the interwebs. I looked on ebay for a box and COA, but they are running about $20-$25. If I ever plan on selling it, I'll definitely shell out the cash for that, but not just yet.

Nice deal.

As far as the term 'stole it'. I plead guilty!

I have used the expression, and will continue to use it. It is a compliment, and meant as an expression of "I really hate you, because you got it (the deal) and I didn't."

How about those TV ads where the woman runs away from the furniture store, 'cause she thinks that the store made a mistake with the price? Is she stealing the stuff? no, she paid what the seller asked, and felt that she got "a steal".

So, to sum up: Nice Steal!

Congrats.

[PS A real steal is if he put it in his pocket and didn't pay the asking price.]
