I just am about to buy an album for SLQ's, and I was wondering how much common date F/VF quarters usually go for. And do you think SLQ's are a good set to tackle? Thanks.

For one thing they don't go anywhere. That is why they are called Standing quarters.
As to a good set to tackle? That is completely depending on you. For one thing the chances of finding one in change is a little tuff. Those are not only coins you must purchase, but do the design, most don't have dates and many have very poor dates. The ones in F/VF are all rather on the expensive side. And pending on if you purchase them on line, a coin store, coin show, the prices will all be well over the $30 and way, way up from there. Pending on the brand of Album you purchase, there may be slots for some that you will never, ever find unless your rich or find a counterfeit.
As a general rule from coin shows, I'd say your average price will be well into the over $50 range for most of them.
One of the things I don't like about that series is it's to short and most Albums have so much room it always appears there will be more someday.
Still one of the nicest looking US coins.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I should try a G/VG set or VG/Fine set, although I know it'll still be expensive.

I don't know if there is a "short set" of STQ. You can always do a recessed date set from 1925 to 1930 with all mintmarks, that would give you a nice 15 coin set, in F/VF except the 27s,if you splurge on that coin you have it. In my opinion a short set or year set is preferable to a set with a life long hole in it, but that's just me.

No, I won't go for the 1916.

There are many other coins I can have if I don't spend all my money on the 1916. It's just not worth it to me (at least at this stage of my collecting).

Just my opinion Moe,,,,, doesn;t it kill ya to have that one coin missing from a complete set ? I know it does me, I have built a couple sets with super keys missing,it bothers me to no end. As I said above...............

But Wheatguy, by all means if you like the series go for it !! One of the most beautiful coins minted in my opinion.

Yes, it does. But when I think of all the other coins I can have (like about sixty Capped Bust half dollars) I reconsider and move on.

I found the Standing Liberty quarters to be hard (and expensive)set to collect. Not only are there not many of them (relatively low mintages), there are many key dates/mints.

And there are a lot of collectors for these, apparently.

I found the Walking Liberty Half Dollars to be a lot more in-expensive and more available. (I was surprised.) And I like the bigger sizes of the Halfs versus the Quarters. I found it very satisfying to collect these. A good value for your money and the keys seemed much easier to collect.

That being said, here's my current ('cause it's never done!) Standing Liberty quarter collection:

Of course you can always fill it in with a fake one.

My wife, thinking she was doing me a favor, bought me this for Christmas a few years back. I said "Thank you" (but I didn't mean it).

Wow that's a nice set. So you're missing only the 1916? I probably will try to go after the 1916, although it'll probably take me forever to save up. I just won't feel complete with one hole.

Very nice set Moe!

Yeah, when I decide to go for the slq set, I will be saving up for the 1916 as well. Mostly because it has been my dream coin for a while. I saw a decent full rimmed PCGS AG-3 go for $1,700 on the bay recently. Expensive, but not impossible.

That seems like a good deal, although I'm not to sure what 1916's go for in lower grades. In AG-3 the date isn't readable right? I think I've heard they use die characteristics to find out.

I sure agree with you there. What really ticks me off is the manufacturers of some Albums that put slots in there that you have no way of ever, ever filling. And some are really silly too. An example of stupidity is my Albums for Liberty Head Nickels with slots for the 1913. Can't find that in change. Not even at coin shows. Same with the 94S Liberty Head Dime. At least with the Standing Liberty Quaters even the rare 16 is possible in at least G-4 for the average rich person.

Moe, beautiful set. love SLQ, might have to put them on my list of sets in the future. Carl yes indeed, albums with impossible coins included, aarrgghh I like blank albums, no dates, just the coins, nice.
