That's a good idea, never thought of one up and one down. I have always put the obverse date side up until the State Quarters came along. I put all of them Reverse Up because of the designs.

I think they look better with both reverses up. I know what Washington looks like but all those reverses are glorious en mass.

My Statehood Quarter Album has reverse up on all coins. All of my other albums have obverse up, of course.

Since I live on the east coast, I tend to find mostly P mint coins. I place all my P mint State Quarters with the Reverse showing and I display the Obverse of the Denver mint.

Quote:My Statehood Quarter Album has reverse up on all coins. All of my other albums have obverse up, of course. Same with me. For a while I tried to put the State Quarters in the face up method and realized I was going nuts trying to figure out which is what. So I turned them all over so the right State is next to each other. Hopefully we will not have any more of this situation.

I mix it up for coins like Walking Liberty halves, Buffalo nickels, and older Jefferson nickels that have the mint mark on the reverse. Everything except for cents, I guess. The P mint (no MM) is obverse up, the others are reverse up. All War Nickels show reverse. Basically, if there's something worth noting on the reverse, I'll show it. I like it and think it breaks up the monotony. -wheatiefan

I am a big fan of the obverse up on coins. But I do agree with many, in that the State Quarters looked good with the reverse up, and not having to look back to see what state it is. It was also hard to look at the states upside down, and having to flip the book over to see them right.

Normally my coins are all obverse up except for the State Quarters and the 4 2009 Lincoln cents. For these, it's "P" coins reverse up to show design and "D" coins obverse up to show date and MM.

For my world coins, I show the side that is "more interesting" to me. Typically, it's the side that has more information on it.
Canadian coins, for instance, are always reverse-side-up, because all the information you need to know about the coin (country, denomination, year) is almost always on the reverse, while the obverse is just the monarch and his/her titles.

Besides, it's the reverse of the Canadians that is the best looking! Obverse up, they look British.

I have put the reverse of the Statehood Quarters "up" in my album. Will do the same with the national-park series too. Jim

Those too will drive me nuts continuously turning the page to see if I got it right. Looks like I'll be playing the State Quarter stuff with those also. Reverse side up. I aleady know that Lincoln is on the othere side so why bother showing the Obverse too. And not that I think about it, those wierd Jefferson nickels with the different reverses I may change them too. Think I'll just go back to collecting the older coins where you know what is what.
