I'm still just using my 2007. The prices change and the mintages on the older coins aren't going to change. I don't collect the modern stuff so I'm not concerned with the 2008 and 2009 mintages.

I gave my 2007 Red Book to my Nephew so I got a new 2010. Otherwise I would have kept the 2007 for the reasons already mentioned. The pricing isn't that much different and the information I really need hasn't changed. |

2010 was the first one I had ever purchsed. I relly have gotten lots of good use out of it. I will probably only get a new one every 4-5 years or whenever mine get too worn. I am not too concerned about having the most up-to-date coins and values, just wanted to good reference to have around

The 2010 Red Book is also a fine "guide for coins and bullion", I feel it is a fine text to fall back on for a good guide for coinage, and the prices they fetch........ |

Any freebies this year? Also I wanted to make a pitch for your local library. If you pick up a new Red Book and don't know what to do with your old one you might want to consider donating it to a library. Unless there is a local collector involved your average library is probably lacking in decent books as far as coin collecting goes (or about any other collection niche for that matter). Whatever they have is probably seriously outdated and pretty generic. Unless your involved in the hobby you wouldn't know what books to get so I would imagine it would benefit just about any local library if a collector would take an interest and check out what they have and maybe make some recommendations or possibly even donate some books that are actually informative to anyone new to the hobby and looking to a library for help. Sorry for the sermon but I just wanted to float the idea out there. |

I have been getting a new RedBook every year.....because I do continue to buy the ultra modern coins.......otherwise...... one old 1971 beat up old Redbook would be all you would ever need for the Classic coins ! ...  Edited by eaglefoot

Just a quick note on the RedBook. About every two years or so I replace the one I am currently using. I was speaking to a fellow collector last winter and he mentioned that a large RedBook, 8-1/2 x 11", spiral bound, is also available. I ended up going to an online book site but did readily find it. I've got to tell you the larger size really makes a world of difference. Not as easy to carry around (if you are so inclined), but the larger print, pictures, etc. are fantastic. At my age, and with vision not what it used to be, it's easy to use. Especially when grading coins. |

i use the 2006 spiral, and acquire old hardbound issues, also the blue book, in mint condition, these (aunc grade) red and blue books are not easyly available here and so can easyly trade for coins. its a great reference

I was lucky enought to win one (2010)at a recent coin show. I didnt notice much difference between the 2010 and the 2009 versions.

i never buy them I just check them out from my library its always there and they have 3 or 4 of em bu they are all 2008
