Am I Wrong In Being Mad At This Dealer?

Hi guys.
Just got back from an over night New Years Eve celebrations in Niagara Falls. The wet snow and drizzle realy didnt put too much of a 'damper' on things. And re-living my youth by seeing a 2 hour outdoor concert by Styx, and Glass Tiger was priceless.
Ive read all the above posts and I'm starting to feel better over the whole episode. I guess what really hit me was the 1st time I ask him to give me a break, I basically got shot down.
As some of you mentioned, this incident really shouldn't taint and over shadow all the other positives I have reaped from this same dealer. Indeed I have always been happy with him in the past, not only with his price points, but I also have had those 'your total is 100 bucks so $90 is good' scenerios as well.
I will more than likely find that 1952'er at any other dealer, or on a 'buy it now option' on ebay for the 10 dollars. Who ever said here that he finds more flexibility in pricing at a coin show also really nailed it. And myself being in Toronto, give me access to not only Torex 4 times a year, but also coinarama in Oshawa and other small coin shows approx every other month in the surrounding area. As far as retail coin shops I probably only have approx 2 which I like, however do have approx 4-5 dealers that are set up @ weekend flea markets that I could utilize comfortably.
In closing, perhaps I need to remember to leave the personalities out of it, and branch out and utilize other options when thing don't immediatley go my way.It appears I have many more options on how to obtain that coin under my terms, than this dealer has in trying to unload it under his.

Bad day - bad day - bad day?

That answer just goes to show you how people these day's will accept bad behavior and poor service with low price. Thirty or forty years ago that would of been the kiss of death for a business, now we have Costco and Home depot.

If there were "no marks" as you say, chances are that it is better than a $10 MS-63 coin. Sometimes we can agree on price, sometimes we can't. I wouldn't sweat it. I always haggle, if the dealer moves I go for it, if he doesn't but it's still worth it, I'll go for it. If he won't move and I won't pay full price, I'll pass - no hard feelings on either side.

That's a good point Hippie. When I find I got a better deal either through the sellers negligence or through any other means, your right...I will pass comment to whom-ever (except the seller) about the deal I got.
On another note, you can be damned sure the dealer is also passing the same type of comments to his counterparts about the deals he gets from unsuspecting sellers, when he recognizes a rare variety or coin that wasn't known to the seller. I'm sure this happens time and time again when Grandma is selling Grandpas entire collection as a lot after he died. If she doesn't know better shes screwed.
Its a 2 way street, and in the interest of proper business, its always the intent to get something cheaper than standard value regardless what side of the counter your on.
Regardless, I'm over it now, and have decided that I will grace this same dealer with my business, but with a different and more formal approach. If he isn't flexible,its the end of the conversation for me and I move on and let him struggle in trying to sell it for his concrete asking price.
I guess my thinking over the whole affair got contaminated based on the total amount of previous business I have done with this seller vs the discounts I feel I now deserve because of such,

Sometimes knowingly overpaying a bit is worth the price of shopping in a brick and mortar coin shop. He does have to pay the bills, and if you average out the money he has saved you in the past by foregoing the sales tax you are probably still ahead of the game.

The seller is entitled to ask whatever he wants. Instead of getting all hot and upset, you could ask what his reasons are for such a price discrepancy vs. trends. Without asking, you'd never know.

Both side could walk away! IMO. I don't think the dealer want to do business with you after all from what I can see even other dealers as well. I am sorry nothing personal that was only what I feel.

I agree that maybe he overpayed for it himself. That or he was looking for another person, possibly less knowledgeable, to sell it to. PM me with dealers to avoid, please, and your exp with them.
