"I just got a 2007 non-magnetic cent. Woohoo!"
How? In change, rolls, or did you buy it?

Nice purchase TheForce - I suspect it's good to get yours now rather than wait for them to get more expensive!
Still no luck finding 2009 non-magnetic here in Western Canada. The 2010s are out though!

I am bringing back this thread because I would like to know how the situation concerning the 2009 zinc 1 cent is at the end of 2010.
---are they still rare or very rare to be found in circulation? ---(in other words, are the magnetic ones still in the majority or the vast majority?)

So far I am still finding a lot of zinc in circulation.I haven't compared my finds. But just taking a wild guess,I would say some weeks 2 zincs to every steel and other weeks the opposite.
I think I will start keeping count and post my findings later on.

I went through the box of pennies and penny jar and came up with 9 non-magnetic 2009 pennies. That should be about 50 rolls from the bank and about 30 rolls in the piggy bank. I did not however come across a non-magnetic 2007. I think the non-magnetic 2007 is the coin to get. There were both non-magnetic and magnetic 2006 logo pennies. I am keeping an interest in the 2006P magnetic pennies. I have a couple of them. I do not have the 2006, no P or mint mark mangetic penny. Looking forward to the day I find one. Good luck to everyone looking.

Quote: I would like to know how the situation concerning the 2009 zinc 1 cent The production figures are available from the RCM. It's about 37 million out of 455 million for the zinc 2009. (Any 2010 production dated 2009 is not public yet, but this is usually negligible.) That roughly agrees with what I find in circulation. About 1 in every ten or twelve 2009 cents is non-magnetic. They aren't very scarce and will carry almost no premium. It's like the 2006 no-P, no-logo nickel: a lot of hype, but now just face value.

@bibd: Thank You very much for the highly interesting information.
Were the production figures which you mentioned posted online? I just found the 455 Mio. number on the mint's web-site

I got my info from the mint's 2009 Annual Report. It's under "corporate information", I believe, on the site. There are pages upon pages of bureaucrap, but somewhere in there is the production data!

I checked my 2009 pennies and have both the magnetic and non magnetic 2009 coins. Thanks for the info.

The topic that never ends... late into 2010! On Wednesday I received my first 2009 zinc cents as change from what appeared to be a fresh mint roll in a cash register. Now if they were dated 2007, I would have begged and pleaded to buy the whole roll!

Gee, I just found this thread on 2009 zinc cents. Well I am a few years late to help out on this topic but for those of you who would be interested I can say only this now. I am the seller who listed the first 2009 zinc cent on ebay which sold for 85 bucks. I hope the buyer of the coin doesn't read this thread, he may want his money back. I actually had 6 boxes of mint 2009 zinc cents during the initial selling frenzy back in feb/mar 2010. I have sold a large part of the coins now but hold onto quite a bit for the inventory. I wish I was a member of this forum back then, I could have calmed some nerves in the early goings. *** Edited by Staff - Please Review the rules about selling coins that you agreed to when you registered. ***
