Halfwitty, we had an economic crash in the old west? A handfull of silver will be worthless when McDonald's and Taco Bell have closed their doors. What good will my silver be to my neighbor when he's starving and has the only chicken around for miles?
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

I bought hundreds of dollars worth of Silver Franklins, Walking Liberty halves, Washington Qtrs, and '64 Kennedy halves a couple few months back. I offered 9x face value for all, and he accepted. We were both happy. (he sold the rest to a coin shop). And remember.....if "times" get bad..... you can't eat Silver. It's waaaaayyyyy too hard on the digestion ! ..... And likely as not, in those kinds of dark days..... thieves will take your "life", your "chicken" AND your "Silver" anyway !...... The "value" of bartering will have nothing whatsoever to do with Silver and Gold.....it will be dealt in "food"...ie..."chickens", cattle, pigs, sheep, vegetables, etc.......again....you can't eat money....and it would be worthless in that kind of situation !

If people are seriously selling silver at 10x, I would love to buy $30 face from them. Me, I can find anything at less then 12x.

I have sold consistenly at 12-13.5x face on ebay over the past 60 days. A little over $1000 in sales in 2010. 95% of what I sold came from roll/bag searching, so it was pretty much all profit. I'd buy at 10x if I found it there though. I think its a great price for you. I wholeheartedly agree with you about that....ME TOO ! ... ....but what do we do when we've run out of ammunition ! ....? ... And/Or the "thieves" are better armed and more numerous than WE ARE ! ... Each bullet would be very precious......and eventually gone.....and it might take 150 chickens and 5 cows to buy EIGHT BULLETS ! .... Just food for thought...... no pun intended ! .... .... Let's just hope we never see days as dark as those though ! ....

So I just thought it would be interesting to see some of the old posts regarding silver prices and junk silver. Wouldn't we all love to be able to buy silver at 10 x face value :D

I would be nice to buy at 10X's. I got some junk last week from a guy at 15X's and I thought that was cool, even if it was only $10 face.
I just can't believe it wasn't a year ago I had people around here buying at 30X's

Heh! Hard to imagine buying at 10x these days. We'll see some good price breaks in the future, but I don't think I'm going to wait around for 10x or even prices in the low teens.

But as a person who likes to dollar cost average into PMs, I WILL be buying regularly and will be getting some at the lower prices from time to time. Never fret over whether you are buying at a temporary market bottom. Doing that can lead to a buyers' paralysis and a very small PM stash. In the long run, ounces are likely to be a lot more important than the fiat price we paid.

I'd like that too, Nod, but am struggling to find ANY action by our fearless leaders that will strengthen the US dollar enough to make this even remotely possible.
