Greysheet Bid is considered to be wholesale "dealer to dealer" trading. Greysheet Ask is generally what collectors should pay. I rarely use any price guides though, I usually know the general ideas of what I would be happy paying for Standing Liberty quarters.

When you get to the grey sheet main page scroll all the way down. You will see a super-small red line which says; free sample. Squint your eyes because its super small. Nothing is free-ya know....

Quote: Greysheet Bid is considered to be wholesale "dealer to dealer" trading. Greysheet Ask is generally what collectors should pay. The spread between bid/ask is small...about 10%. Those are the bid and ask prices for dealer-to-dealer trading. A sale occurs when the two dealers agree on a price. :) A dealer won't stay in business long marking up only 10% to retail customers. Yes, as I already mentioned, collectors can get coins at greysheet levels.

I have had no problem getting coins at greysheet levels at coinshows. The coins are not "modern" coins. There are many dealers that won't budge, but a few that do. These dealers also seem to do the bulk of the business at the shows.

Oops, my mistake. I have to agree with Murty, it seems pretty easy to find coins at Greysheet Ask, even sometimes Bid. Edited to add the link to the free sample: http://www.greysheet.com/web_order/sample_form.aspThey all kinds of different newsletters, remember to read about each one.

I hope nobody is misunderstanding my comments. I never said coins can't be bought a greysheet prices. I'm was only commenting on what the greysheet prices represent.
Dealers get a lot of inventory from non-dealers at *below* greysheet price levels.

Yup, I understood you Steve. The different kinds of Greysheet confused and still confused me though, I was looking through the Monthly Supplement for coins that were in the CDN Quarterly.

Yeah, you gotta learn which coins are in which cycles. Fortunately, the occasional weekly & monthly covers just about everything I follow...at least for now.
On Walkers they put some grades in the weekly and other grade ranges in the monthly...so I print both those pages, scissors/scotch tape/photocopy a one page deal I can keep in my notebook.

Sometimes at a club meeting one might be able to pick up a copy from a member who subscribes.

Yeah, twice a year I get all of them and get the current and monthly supplement quarterly. Just enough to stay relatively on top of trends.

Let me add that it is much easier to get greysheet prices when you visit your local dealer if you spend some real money. If you do not buy a lot of coins from us we dealers are not as open to discounts as we have to make a profit as well. If all you are going to do is cherrypick a couple cheaper coins and then ask us for discounts you won't get very far and will actually tick us off if you get too pushy. I had a guy come in yesterday asking for bu Roosevelt dimes. I gave him excellent prices (below greysheet) on a couple of the rarer dimes from my very finest book (they should grade ms 65 or better) but he wanted to buy them for bullion price. I don't think so.... Becoming a dealers regular customer and friend goes a very long way as well. When I know you by name that significantly increases the possibility of getting greysheet prices or at least a good discount when I see you every week or two. Sincerely, John Leckrone

I wasn't flaming the Red Book or the people who use it, just pointing out that the prices are usually very high in most occasions, and I don't think I've ever paid above or at Red Book prices for any of my SLQ's.

As I buy almost exclusively from one dealer, I'll sometimes ask for his previous Greysheet once he's received the new. He's more than happy to pass it on to me.
