Very nice Eaglefoot! I have satins with proofs in one album and for the business strikes added a page to my State Quarter albums.

Quote: So, the one's in my mint set don't count? I'm still missing some (or more). Since 2005, the mint set coins are made with a special process and have a satin finish. That process is not the same one used for business strikes. This change messed things up for the many of the people that normally get their business strike coins from mint sets. Knowing that they are different bothers them. Of course, it is ultimately up to the individual. If all of your P&D coins have been taken from mint sets, then I see no reason not to continue that. However, if you are like me (and prefer to get all of your P&D coins from circulation), then using a mint set coin (because circulation finds are difficult these days) does not sit well. I find that the difference cannot be ignored. They are a different type, one that is "better" than a circulation strike, not quite as "good" as a proof. There are people that will collect all three types. Eaglefoot's DC/Territorial album is a nice example of that.

Yeah, tell me about it! I have never given mints sets much thought, since I had only every bought the mint set when necessary (For example, to get my 1973 P&D Eisenhower dollars, which were only available in mint sets.) I have found it increasingly difficult to find the current circulation strikes, especially the D mint coins. (For example, I finally found a 2003-D dime in September, 2008). I was seriously considering getting them from mint sets, until I learned of the difference.

So I need to replace 2005+. Are there any more "tainting" my album?

No. And I would not say they are tainting the album. They are just in the wrong hole. Of course, Dansco has yet to recognize this. Which is why Eaglefoot has an extra page in that album for the satin finish P&D coins. In my opinion, the whole situation would be better if the entire Statehood Quarter run had satin finish coins in the mint sets (like the Presidential dollars). Then one could choose to do one way or the other. But as it stands, you cannot have a complete Statehood Quarter set in satin finish.

Which of course brings things to the current new series.....the Parks Qtrs. We can't just trot down to the bank to get a roll each and every time a new Qtr. comes out like we did the State Qtrs. So....combined with some possible very low mintages....these Parks Qtrs. could be VERY VERY difficult in finding the biz. strikes...... .....and there's 11 years worth of THESE coming up ! ..... Just how hard will it be to acquire the biz. strikes ?.....that's what's been worrying me. No one wants to get ripped off by the Mint and pay for the "Two Roll Sets", plus shipping, each and every time a new Qtr. comes out ! (I'm not!) ......I'm just gonna "hope & pray" that I can find them in BU from roll searching.....both P AND D....(and that will be very hard !).....or, rely on some kind souls here on CCF.......don't really know.

We could all take turns buying the two rolls and put the extras up in the BST. I'm sure somebody probably will anyway.
Personally, I'm so aggravated still that I may just end my quarter collection right where it is and go back and work on upgrading my silvers and clads.

I know what ya mean....(I'm doing "both" simultaneously!)...but I just know that I'll eventually want to collect them....and so I'd like to start right out of the gate, and not play "catch up" six years from now...

I might just change my method of operation (getting coins from circulation) and build my album from mint sets. Sure, I will keep them from circulation if I find them. Maybe I will do those as a date set? I do not know. What I do know is that the last few years has been rather painful adding coins from circulation. My continually decreasing use of cash is not helping.

Hello. I have a question in response to the posts I read here. I have bought both of my daughters just a regular folding type album for their collection of State Quarters. I have some old dansco albums so I am somewhat familiar with them. If I wanted to set up an album(s) for every quarter with mint marks and territories, etc, what would be the recommended setup so that I will only have to do it once and have it complete? Aside from the normal Dansco album, does more need to be added to include the variations of strikes? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks. John

John: You need to add an extra quarter page to the album if you want to collect both satin finish P & D issues from mint sets which started in 2005 and the normal business strike P & D issues. The Dansco albums only have one P & D slot per year. Welcome to the forum!

WOW eaglefoot!! That is BEAUTIFUL! I am so jealous of your set! It looks like you may be missing one though, which one is it? I'll ask my bank and see what I can do for you
