I'm with you tumbleweed. I haven't sold any yet but that being said, when I find a nice example of a coin that can replace one that I have, I have a hard time makeing the switch.

I had a nice NGC EF40 1909-S Indian that I kind of kick myself for getting rid of. However, I do still have the 1877 Indian!

Quote: I've never sold a coin. I can't bring myself to it. Same here. I avoid upgrading because all of my coins have a sentimental value. On the very rare occasion that I have upgraded something, the previous coin has been moved to a miscellaneous album that I have.

I've sold many lower grade pre-33 gold coins when gold was in the $800-$900 range. I wish I had held onto them...

That would be a great topic! My most memorable would be a Twenty Cent Piece I saw at a coin show two years ago. For some reason, that one will show up in my dreams like the girl that got away.

Thirty years ago I sold a AG 1916 D dime that I had found in change for $35. Needed the money. What are they now-about $800. Oh well. A coin I'm glad I bought 20 years ago was a VG 1921 quarter for $65. I'm keeping that one.

So here is my coin that I wish I would have never sold..... one day out of the blue I decided to go up to a local pawn shop to see if that had any silver coins (as I figured the price of silver would increase). After looking at the ones in the case and decided the picking were limited I asked if he had any more of these. I guess sence the coins had been sitting in the shop for a long time he wanted to get rid of the ones he had in the back. So the man walks into the back and pulls out an old pastic roll container. He then hands me this container of coins and I begain to dump them out on the counter and sifting through them. Nothing was of any concern to me untill I came accross this one..

Now come on... what do you think was going thro my head at this point? ill tell you. This guy's coins were pretty much unempressing. but when I fliped the or side of the coin this is what I saw.................. yea...i almost screamed like a lil girl. lol I could not believe it so I took another look at the other side. Sure enough a 1889cc Morgan silver dollar! wow!!. I had to calm down and tell the man that this coin woulod be the one that I would like to buy...to my amazment he picks up the coin..takes a look at it then says to me 20.00$( and no that is not a misplacement of the decimal. lol I opened my eyes cracked a grin and said sounds good. I never have nor probably ever again own a coin like that ever again. even with an OK grade and scratch running accross her face, luck will probably never again bless me like she did on that day. and if not for my ignorance and greed I would have never sold it. the story alone is invaluable. and I being human have to accept my mistakes and move on. But this experience alone has humbled me already at the age of 25 and has really given me a taste of what coin collecting is all about.

christophercoin, That's a great story! You were indeed blessed that day. Instead of sitting around collecting dust, that coin served a purpose to you as it helped get you out of your parents' house and on your own. In my opinion, getting out on your own is certainly a worthy cause to sell any coin. You didn't make a mistake. If you had said you sold it to buy cigarettes or something like that...well, that would be a different story.
