lol - I think that his spelling probably actually cost him some $$ on this one. Its pretty common to see these rolls with an old dime and old IH go for over $40.

I'd love to find some Xold in there though!!

I'll post up results when it arrives.

The 1863 IHC looks to be in good condition, I don't think you did bad for 16 bucks.

I agree. The 1863 alone justifies the purchase (particularly since you needed one anyway). Nice!

Don't worry about being a sucker.
If I weren't so poor, I would be buying these mystery auctions, too.

I give that seller credit for being honest. He doesn't claim it to be "unsearched" and he pretty much acknowledges the best two coins are on the end and doesn't try to make any outrageous claims about the wheats in the middle. Anyway, I think you did fine on the buy.

OK - the roll arrived, and it was actually better than I thought it'd be.

Cents first: The 1863 is in VF condition at a minimum and may squeak out XF. As mentioned, I needed one for my set anyway - so bonus.
The rest: 1899, 1907, 1911, 1914, 1916, 1917(3), 1919S, 1920(2), 1923, 1924, 1929, 1930S, 1935(2), 1936, 1936D(2), 1937D, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942(2), 1943, 1944, 1945, 1946(2), 1951D, 1952, 1952S, 1953D(2), 1954D(2), 1955D, 1956D, 1957 and finally 1958D. Pretty good assortment of cents, most in decent condition, nothing worse than G4.

Dimes - the 1841 Seated dime was visible on the end - and in pretty bad condition, but its silver. There were 6 silver dimes in all - 1909 Barber, 1944 Mercury, 1951, 1955 and 1961 Roosevelts.

So all in all, I added some silver, filled a couple of holes and didn't get ripped off. I guess once in a while these potluck rolls can be fun.

That was pretty good for an "unsearched" roll.

Yeah, that wasn't too bad a score! It certainly could have turned out worse. But for $16, an 1863 VF/XF IHC and almost a half an ounce of silver - I'd do that.

Good deal, not a bad idea to check these shotgun rolls once in awhile.
Some of my best deals have been buying "lots" of coins, e.g. 4 merc dimes in one lot and the shipping per coins averages down.
