I'm more than half-way to a 50 coin type set of Classic US Silver Commemorative ..... all blast white, no toned, full luster MS64 and better ..... and truly enjoy them all. Favorite is tough to pick .... The Civil War coins are all great ..... Stone Mountain, Gettysburg and Antietam. I have those. Beautiful and classic designs on the Oregon and Texas coins. I have those as well. Did you know that the 1935 Connecticut Half has the same tree (Charter Oak) as the 1999 State Quarter? The only case I know where a tree has appeared on two USA coins! How about the various sailing ships in the Classic US Silver series? ..... some great US coin art here ..... still missing a few coins but someday I will make a post of them all for our enjoyment. Pick a favorite ..... impossible for me ..... I enjoy them all. David

I think my favorite would be the 1936 Bridgeport, CT coin. That eagle design is wonderful to me.

I would have to say the Texas Centennial. It was my favorite at the time I started collecting early commemoratives and my first early comm. purchase. I still love it.

I probably like the oregon trail one the best. I actually like all of the older ones though. It would be cool if they would release commemorative for circulation again like they used to

Incidentally, Connecticut is not is only State Quarter with an older silver commem match. Check the reverse of both the Hawaiian half and the State Quarter. Same goes for the Oregon Trail half and the Nebraska State Quarter.

Quote: I just got this 1936 D TX Half I am thrilled that she has a new lifetime home in Texas! Great photos BTW Moe ..... much better than mine. Quote:Check the reverse of both the Hawaiian half and the State Quarter. Same goes for the Oregon Trail half and the Nebraska State Quarter. Excellent insight zazenboy ...... many thanks for that! I just checked mine out and agree with you ..... the historical theme repeats as you state. Would be fun to put together a seperate collection of the 6 coins with classic/modern ties ........ Still .... the Charter Oak is the only tree that I know of which has appeared on two USA coins. David

Oh but wait, I missed out on a couple: Massachusetts Minuteman and the 1925 Lexington half, he appears on both. The Illinois half with its associated quarter, for the Lincoln theme, and if you were to include modern commems, the reverse of the Columbus Quincentenary dollar, the split of the Santa Maria and Discovery space shuttle, with the Florida quarter, the ship is of a similar type, and lastly if you were to accept my explanation of the Columbus/Florida connection, some credence can be given to Cesar Rodney on the Delaware quarter as being 'stylistically' similar to the riding Lafayette on the eponymous dollar! Happy hunting,
PS more moderns: Mount Rushmore/South Dakota, American Buffalo and Yellowstone = North Dakota and Kansas... buffaloes are everywhere these days numismatically!
