This coin has the closed "O" and also has the die scratch in the letter E of ONE and D in DOLLAR. It also has the die chip on the ear. nlp

It's still sitting in my safe. Larry hasn't returned two of my morgans yet that are somewhat lost and I haven't sent any more coins in yet til they are found. I believe one went to LVA and probably got shuffled around. Worse case I should see him personally at a show in 6 weeks. nlp

zeewol - no, I don't know that stuff either. I suppose if I ever get into silver dollars I'll learn it, but right now I prefer just straight bullion - ASEs, Engelhard, J&M

Thanks for the moral support Waredu. I imagine that when the time comes, it will be easier for you than it is for me. (I not too smart, maybe that is what makes it hard for me). I see a lot of folks who are able to grasp the concepts rather easily though.

1878's can be daunting with all the design changes that year. Leroy did a pretty good job of sequencing the numbers along the lines of the design changes. You can make attribution much easier if you follow an "eye checklist" of sorts. Here's how I do it ... read left to right.   |
