I would think it would be a nice year to wrap the series. It is probably time to end the half dollar. Basically do something special so it can go out with a bang. Maybe make it in silver with a different reverse that commemorates the anniversary and leave the obverse the same (or just make minor changes on the obverse). Maybe do a coin and chronicles package set with a proof version or something extra like that.

Make it 10% silver. Change the obverse to Reagan. Change the reverse to the eagle they were contemplating to use on the reverse of the cent before they chose the boring shield.

I predict that by 2014:
1. We'll still be making the Lincoln Cent and still having arguments about it being more expensive to make than it's worth and the country will still be debating about eliminating it.
2. We'll still have both paper $1 bills and the $1 coins (which won't circulate) because no one in Washington will come to their senses and do what needs to be done to make the coins circulate which is eliminate the dollar.
3. By then, inflation will have made the half dollar worth about what the nickel is worth so it will have a resurgence of popularity.

I think a nice tribute to John Kennedy would be to put a moon / eagle on the reverse, since it was his vision that got us there.

If they do change the half dollar it would be nice not to have a president on the coin.

Maybe this on the obverse:
2014-Kennedy-Half-Dollar
And this as the reverse
2014-Kennedy-Half-Dollar

No more dead presidents and take the latin off of our coinage. I prefer English.

Either kill it or mint it in 90% silver so it can be worthwhile to collect.

Actually they do....the silver proof set. I don't see this coin going away until we Boomer's are long gone. There are more people collecting KHD's than most realize. I used a KHD (beat up nasty looking coin I found) in a supermarket one day and a lady my age, behind me, immediately asked if she could buy it instead. I gave it to her and asked if she was a collector and she said, "no, only KHDs". That stunned me for a sec as I ran that through my mind. She didn't even know she collected coins.

I think PT 109 on the reverse would be spectacular.

The Kennedy half dollar is one of the top ten collected coins here in America. It is very popular and for good reason. I consider it to be a beautiful coin. I like both the Kennedy portrait and the heraldic eagle. I would like to see some kind of change though. Perhaps a different portrait of Kennedy and a different reverse for the anniversary at least. Sincerely, John Leckrone

I think perhaps putting the apollo rocket in the foreground with the moon in the background would be a good idea and surround the design with stars or something of the like, if not then perhaps a design of the eagle spacecraft landing on the moon might be a good way to commemorate the 50th anniversary. Keep the obverse the same. And a Kennedy chronicles set would be a good idea one each of the old and new design (proof, uncirculated, and Silver version). Six coins total, for say $59.95 and number each set up to 35,000.

Not just the silver proof set, all of them minted in 90% silver (P & D mints). Would help to replenish the silver in circulation.
