I would play but probably not this round as I will be out of pocket for 3 or 4 days next week and I wouldn't want to hold up the game.

That's not a problem, weavus. I expect this game to last for a few weeks. You *might* miss one turn, and early on it would not be hard to get caught up on clues.

Clue is usually a game played between three to six players. You attempt to solve a a murder
mystery (jinkys!), based on the clues that are provided from all of the players.

The game board has nine different rooms on it, one of which the "murder" took place in.
It's a classic game of figuring out "who done it" and each player can only make accusations
when they are in a room. There are playing cards for each of the characters, each of the rooms
and each of the weapons. Three of those cards, one room, one weapon and one character, are
placed in an envelope, unseen by any of the players.

To start the game, the six colored tokens are placed on the starting squares marked with the
appropriate suspect's name. For example, the white piece belongs on the Mrs. White square.

The weapons are placed on the board randomly, one in each room.

Each player is given a pad of detective notes and a pencil.

There are 21 cards that represent the suspects, the murder weapons and the various rooms that
the crime could have been committed in.

The 21 cards are separated into three piles: room cards, weapon cards and suspect cards. Each
pile is shuffled and one card is taken from each pile and placed in an envelope. This represents
the who, what, and where solution to the game.

The remaining cards are shuffled together and dealt one card at a time facedown to each player.
Players should keep their cards hidden.

Each player then chooses a token. Play begins with Miss Scarlet and continues to the left.
Some tokens may remain unused if there are fewer than six players.

Roll the die and move your token that number of spaces on the yellow squares. Pieces may move
forward, backward or to the side, but not diagonally. Only one die is used to determine
movement, but certain corner rooms have secret passageways you can use to get to another room
and make another guess on who did it, what was used and what room in was done in. You can only
make one guess per time you enter a room and can only make one true accusation throughout the
course of the game.

If you make your accusation and it is wrong, you will need to put the cards back in the
envelope without letting the other players see and you are out of the game from then on.
You have a piece of paper with each room, character and weapon on it which you will use
throughout the game to mark off the cards you have seen.

Enter or leave a room by moving through the doorway or using a secret passage found in the
corner rooms. Your turn ends when your token enters a room, no matter what the die roll was.

Make a suggestion after entering a room. Move the weapon and suspect into the room your token
is in and state your suspicion. For example, if you are in the library, you can move Mr. Green
and the rope into the room with you and say, "I suggest that the crime was committed in the
Library by Mr. Green with the rope."

Prove the suggestion true or false. Once a suggestion has been made, the player to the
suggester's left checks his or her cards. If he or she holds any of the three cards (in this
case the library, Mr. Green or the rope), he or she shows one only card to the suggester.
If the first player to the left doesn't hold any of the cards, the next player to the left
checks his or her cards and so on. The suggestion is proved false once a card held by another
player is shown.

Make an accusation when no player can disprove the suggestion. When you have figured out which
three cards are in the envelope, announce that you are making an accusation and identify which
cards you believe they are. Carefully look at the cards in the envelope making sure no other
players can see them.

Win the game if your Accusation is correct. Lay the cards on the table faceup. If you're wrong,
however, return the cards to the envelope and you may not move anymore. You can, however,
disprove suggestions with the cards in your hand.

Well, here we have the CCF version of the game.

One of our members has accidentally misplaced a recent coin purchase in one of the CCF forum rooms.
He or she visits so many CCF rooms on such a regular basis that they can't remember which room they
sat it down in. We must help them find their coin!

I suspect this game will take a little while play, but you only need to check in at least once
a day to get caught up on clues and/or respond to a suggestion. If several of us happen to be
on at the same time, several turns can be made per day.

Our potential friend who has misplaced the coin will be everyone who registers to play. The order
of play will be decided by the order of registration. For example the first person to register and
say "I'll play" would represent Miss Scarlet's "position" (who always goes first). The next player to
register will be "seated" to the left of the first person, and so on.

Just like the traditional game, there will be a minimum of 6 players, but there could be more
depending on how many register. If less than 6 people register, we will use traditional names
from the game to make sure there is a minimum. The six traditional players are: Col. Mustard,
Prof. Plum, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, Miss Scarlett, and Mrs. White. Again, some of these names may
or may not be used depending on how many have registered.

The six traditional weapons are: knife, candlestick, revolver, rope, lead pipe, and the wrench.
In our game, weapons will be substituted by a coin that was misplaced. We will start with a Lincoln wheat,
Buffalo nickel, Mercury dime, Standing Liberty qaurter, Walking Liberty half, and a Morgan dollar.
More coins may be added if needed to insure all players get an equal amount of clues.

The nine traditional rooms are: hall, lounge, dining room, kitchen, ball room, conservatory,
billiard room, library, and study. The CCF rooms that we will start with is: Modern US coins,
Classic US coins, Main Coin Forum, Coin Photography, Australian Pre-Decimal Coins, Canadian Coins,
Ancient Greek & Roman Coins, United Kingdom Coins, World Coins & Commemoratives, and Metal Detecting.
And again, more rooms may be added if needed.

Once registration is completed and the game is about to begin, I will randomly select a name,
lost coin and room and place them in the "envelope". I will then "shuffle" all the remaining
"cards" and distribute them to each of you via a PM. If there are not enough cards to
distribute evenly, I will add a missing coin or room accordingly so that everyone gets an
equal amount of clues.

For example, there are 6 coins, 10 rooms, and a minimum of 6 players totaling 22 "cards".
If 3 go into the "envelope", that leaves 19 "cards" to distribute. If there are exactly 6 people
playing, you would get 3 clues each. In this case, I would probably just expose the extra card to everyone,
rather than adding coins and rooms to get everyone 4 clues. Of course, if you'd like me to add rooms and coins,
I certainly will!

If 7 people were to register, we would have 6 coins, 10 rooms, and 7 players. 3 into the envelope
leaves 20 "cards" for 7 players. 7 goes into 20 only twice with 6 "cards" left over. I would then add
another coin or room to get to 21 "cards" to make sure everyone would get 3 clues each.

Since we can't really roll the die or move on the colored squares, your turn will consist of either:
A) move to a room,
B) once you are in a room you may make a suggestion from that room, or
C) make the "discovery".

So, basically here at CCF, every room has a secret passage to every other room, but that counts as
a turn. I will keep track of what clues are sent to what players, in case of a lapse in response.

Game speed will basically be determined by who's on and when, but you must respond to a suggestion
or take your turn within 24 hours or I will respond for you and/or move you to a room. So, if you come up
missing from the game, I will just keep moving you from room to room and respond to any clues.

During game play, chatter is fine, but the only game information that you can post is:
A) A move. For example, "I move to the Metal Detecting Forum".
B) A suggestion. For example, I think Bobby left his Lincoln wheat in the Metal Detecting Forum. But, you must be in the
room you are suggesting from.
C). "No clues" which means you are the person to the "left" and you do not have any "cards" to show.
At which time, the person to your left will check their "cards" and either disprove the suggestion
by posting "PM sent", then PM the person making the suggestion with one and only one "card" that
disproves the suggestion.
D) "PM sent" which tells the other players that you do have a clue to disprove the suggestion.
E) Make the discovery. Just like in the real game, if you think you have figured out who, what and where,
you may attempt to solve the mystery by "Making the discovery". I will then check the envelope and if you are
correct, you will be declared the winner. If you are incorrect, you can no longer move or make suggestions or discoveries,
but you must still respond to any suggestions that you can disprove by the cards you are holding.

NOTE: IN THE REAL GAME, WHEN YOU MADE A SUGGESTION, YOU PULLED THE PLAYERS TOKEN TO THAT ROOM. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN HERE!

It would be too confusing to determine if you were pulled to another room by someone,
so you will always be in the room that YOU moved to.

Also, unless the Mods have access to PM info, let's invite them to play! They never get to play anything!

Here is a mock round:

Registration is completed with the following players signing up:

1) nod2003
2) rikcando
3) xshift
4) unnkown95
5) wolf-n-wa

Since less than 6 players have registered, I randomly pick Prof. Plum to be the 6th player,
although it could be any of them. I will represent Prof. Plum and give clues only.

The who, what and where are placed in an "envelope" by me. The remaining "cards" are "shuffled"
and I PM each player 3 clues.

Play then begins with nod2003 and is followed in order of registration.

Each turn is either a move to a room, a suggestion, or the discovery.

nod2003 posts "I move to the Main Coin Forum".
rikcando posts "I move to the Coin Photography Forum"
xshift posts "I move to the Canadian Coin Forum"
unnkown95 posts "I move to the Main Coin Forum"
wolf-n-wa posts "I move to the Metal Detecting Forum"
Play then skips me and the next turn belongs to nod2003.

nod2003 posts "I suggest xshift lost her Buffalo nickel in the Main Coin Forum". (You must make a suggestion from
the room you are in).

rikcando is the player to nod2003's left, he checks his clues. If he has one of the cards, for
example, the Main Coin Forum card. He posts "PM sent" and then PM's nod2003 telling him he has the Main Coin Forum card. If, for example, he had 2 of the cards, like the Main Coin Forum card and the xshift card, he could tell
nod2003 either one, but not both. Only one clue at a time! Play would then resume to rikcando's turn.

If rikcando has none of the clues to disprove nod2003's suggestion, he would post "No clues" and
xshift would then check her cards to see if she has any of the clues to disprove the suggestion.
If she does, she posts "PM sent" (letting everyone know that she has one of the clues), then PM's nod2003
and exposes a clue, or she posts "No clues", in which unnkown95 then checks his cards, and so on.
Game play then resumes with rikcando.

If you think you have it figured out, you can make the discovery. I will check your discovery against the
"envelope". If you are correct, you will be declared the winner. If you are incorrect, you can
no longer move or make suggestions, but you must still respond to suggestions with any clues that you are still holding.

Well, I hope that about covers it.

Fire off any questions! And if there is enough interest, we will proceed with registration.

What about this scenario though. I rik makes a suggestion and I am the person to his left and am not able to be on in a 24 hour period? How is rik going to get timely feed back on his guess? Also, that can be compounded so that it might take rik 3-5 days to get through everyone if the first couple of people don't have those cards. Just wondering how that is handled?

I will keep track of what clues are sent to each player. If someone has not responded within 24 hours, I will respond to any suggestions, or make a move for you.

I know it's only an example, but it is not likely that rik will be away fromthis forum for more than 24 hours, and he's not likely to mind waiting a day or two. Buy long, stay long, win big.
