THESE EMAILS ARE AN ERROR
After being livid like most, I called the mint, hit 1, the first message on there was "we are aware that some people have received emails about cancelled orders and items being out of stock, these emails were sent in error and we are working on correcting it"
So not being one to sit on hold with the man, I hung up and figured we will wait and see.
The mint has a terribly slow email system - they normally send out messages saying "this item now on sale" about 20 to 30 hours after it is on sale...

For some reason, PBGS decided to enter subscription orders into the system two weeks before the coins are set to go on sale. They have been in the habit of doing this two days ahead for some time now, ever since we called them to task on the promise that subscription orders are supposed to be the first ones entered. I believe that this decision to change from two days to two weeks was not properly researched and that they have run afoul of daemons in the ordering system that automatically send out back order notices and ones that cancel attempts to enter orders before products officially go on sale. Everything was fine at two days, the software evidently had some leeway built in but this shift to a two week lead caused the system to come to action and send out backorder notices for stale orders and then to spot items being ordered before they are supposed to be and it started cancelling them because that is mint policy:
"To ensure that all members of the public have fair and equal access to United States Mint products, any order placed prior to the official on-sale date and time of November 19, 2010, 12:00 Noon (ET) shall not be deemed accepted by the United States Mint and will not be honored."
I think that PBGS outsmarted itself and is now paying the price for laziness and is having to reinstate all of the cancelled orders and find out how to disable the processes that back-order and cancel. Frankly, I was bothered when they started the two day thing specifically because of the above policy. All in all, another PBGS bungle. They will blame it on the computers, but the computers are doing exactly what they were told to do. This is PBGS's fault.

well even if it wasn't in error there isn't allot we can do about it but moan and groan about it. If we getem we getem, if we don't, not allot we can do to change their mind so its just a wait and see kind of thing as it was before they ever decided to even mint these things Quote: $50 a piece? Are these really worth it? Since there wasn't any 2009 these will probably sell out very quickly. I don't usually make a statement on rarity when it comes to products the mint produces. the last time I did was the 20th anniversary ASE sets and I bought 20 sets of those for $100.00 a pop and by the time they arrived in the mail they were already selling for three times that amount because they sold out so fast and everyone needed the reverse proof which was the only way to get it was in this set

I just saw that the US Mint has sold more ASE's this year than any other year so far. I know they didn't make these coins last year because of the demand of the uncirculated version so if demand has picked up they may have to change their mind and not mint the proof version any longer

This seems about normal for our mint - a backorder email followed by bad/bogus emails. I agree w/ captainkurt - It's nice to have CCF to keep me from blowing a gasket.

Congress is working on legislation that will allow minting proof and uncirculated silver and gold Eagles no matter what the demand for bullion is. Congress never intended to prohibit the production of the high profit coins, that is something that Moy decided to read into the bullion law to please the authorized dealers.

I can confirm what clair said a couple of messages back and what Brian said. I too got the confirmation email indicating I should receive my proof ASE by Nov 24 (i had a subscription) . Then today I got the dastardly email stating cancelled, all sold out. I just got off the phone with wonderful Penny at the Mint sales #. She confirmed by order number and the emails were in error. But, no more subscriptions being taken. Everyone else has to wait til Nov 19 now. Brian is right, can't do anything about the way the screw with us. they do what they want. Wait and see. I still say it will be a small proof mintage, I hope. lol

Just got this:
Dear United States Mint Customer,
On Wednesday, November 10, 2010, The United States Mint sent email notifications out to customers notifying them that some backordered and subscription items were canceled. This was an error. We are diligently working on a resolution to this issue.
We sincerely apologize for the confusion and inconvenience this may have caused.

As of this morning, both of my SAE subscription orders have been reinstated with their original order numbers and are scheduled to ship on the 28th. I have not received any new emails from the mint as yet.
