After a quick read on Full Talons... I have 13 of them pulled out. I need to do a little further research to see how far up the talon needs to be defined in order for it to be considered FT. I think the reason I have so many is b/c 90% of them are 1979-P. That date seems to be the most common FT out there.

That's a really nice looking wide rim/near date coin they have for sale.
But, they're asking MS65 kind of money. No way (at least for me) to tell from those pics, other than it looks like a nice coin.

Quote:from what I've heard - the 1981 SBA can usually carry more of a premium than the others. I normally get them from banks and then I spend them... The 1981's bring a premium because they were not made for circulation. They only came in mint sets and some special dollar sets that were sold at the mint. Quote: I only have 1979's. Kind of funny. I have 30+ and they're all 79 Not surprising, they made almost 700 million 79's and less than 100 million 80's. They only made 3 million 81's and 40 million 99's. The 81's didn't circulate and most of the 80's and 99's were also held by collector/hoarders. About the only pieces that did circulate were the 79's.

I would keep a few for your future. but if you have a bunch left just go use them. They made these dollar coins for a reason. Use them. Some people dont even know what a dollar coin is (true. I went in to buy some candy and I handed the cashier a Sacagawea dollar coin and she said to me "Ive never seen this. I dont know if I can accept this as currency. But I guess I will accept it cause it says its United States." Keep the uncirculated and all the 1981 (they were not released into circulation, sort of like the 1970-d and 1987p&d half dollars). I also find it hard to find 1999. (i am still missing 1999-d for my collection) I always look into teller trays. sometimes they have good stuff. Found ten Ikes in the half dollar part. They were happy to get rid of them.

I have a large safe deposit box full of SBA's. My grandfather used to take all of us Grand kids to the bank on our birthday to get a couple hundred dollars worth of SBA's when they were minted and he would put them in our safe deposit box for us. When each of the other 3 Grandchildren was 18 he told them he would buy them from them or they could have them or leave them in the box. Everyone else cashed theirs in to him and got the cash (probably about $1000.00 each for them). I was the youngest and I decided to keep my SBA's in the safe deposit box. After about 15 years he told me he was going to close the deposit boxes and if I wanted to keep mine I could pay for it and he would put all the coins from the rest of the Grand kids in my box since I was the only one who was interested in coins, but I would have to upgrade to a larger box. So now I have at least $8000.00 worth in a safe deposit box still in their wrapper since he would buy just as many for himself at the same time to put in his SDB

wow, now if they could just double in value you'd be doing quite well with them!

I purchased 2 mint bags each of the 99 P & D, back in 2000 for face value and so far all they are doing is holding down the safe to the floor!

Synchronicity. I just happened to flip on the TV earlier and a history documentary was on about women and voting and Susan B Anthony was one of the highlighted women stories. She was quite the woman! Its nice to understand some of the history behind this commemorative. Nice.

I use to search them for the near date. I think I've found 7 or 8 of them.

I think my grandfather had convinced himself that these things were going to be hot and everyone was going to love them. When everyone started complaining it didn't stop him because then he decided they may stop minting them so he just knew anyone who had some would be in a good position with them. Well 32 years later they are still worth a dollar and sometimes if you are not paying attention you can get a cashier tell you that you were short because they threw one in the quarter bin

What you have to wonder is what is the deciding factor on what coins are in demand and why do the values rise so quick on a whim. As an example which I have used before. 2 years ago I was picking up Large Cents Middle years dates for 1-4 bucks off the auction. I came back into collecting thinking I'd go back that route. Well seems your luck to pick one up that looks like it has been set on the interstate and ran over for several hours for under $10. So could someone wake up tomorrow and say well lets make SBA's the coin to have. Then poof here comes a mad value increase.

I have gone through thousand of dollars of dollar coins and about 40% were SBA. out of that 40%, 35% was 1979 and 1980. 5% were 1999. Never found a 1999-d though and still need one for my collection.
