If you are using stock photos, you are just shady IMO.

I can agree to a certain extent on that but if your selling tons of coins by weight (silver) I doubt you want to take 100's of pictures but I stay away from those for the most part as I like to know what I'm getting.

Using stock photos for a pile of generic face value silver bullion is one thing, using a stock photo for a very rare and valuable die variety is another matter entirely. Most would call that fraud...

Obviously the coin is most likely a fake but I doubt the seller has bad intentions, IMO he is just an uninformed person who doesn't know anything about coins.

He also has actual photos of the coin, but they aren't the best close ups.

Quote: but I doubt the seller has bad intentions, IMO he is just an uninformed person who doesn't know anything about coins. i don't think this is the case. He knows enough to realize it's fake or most likely fake. I also find it extremely unlikely he wasn't able to get a good picture or scan of the coin and that's the reason why he couldn't first post them. Come on, he has enough transactions to realize how to take a picture and add it to ebay. I think he's was just trying to cover himself when the buyer realizes he bought a fake coin for a fair amount of money.

If you notice, he has now posted a weight of the coin and it's no where near the right weight. I guess maybe he is ignorant of the authenticity or just covering himself.

Quote:Come on, he has enough transactions to realize how to take a picture and add it to ebay. True, but he never said he doesn't know how to add a picture. He said he couldn't get a good close-up of the coin, which is the problem many collectors have, even on here. Obviously the guy isn't as straight up as he could be, although I don't find anything wrong with his auction. He stated Quote:IM ONLY selling this because this doesn't look real to me. I am not sure if I'm allowed to sell this on ebay so if I'm not let me know and ill take it off. I looked up fake coins on ebay and found "copy" on all the coins and this coin doesn't have "copy". but it looks way to nice to be real. which doesn't seem overly shady or dishonest to me. I think it might be a good idea for you to either email and educate the seller or report the auction to ebay instead of blasting him publicly here. Quote:Quote: 97.8% Positive feedback He's only gotten one negative in the past 12 months, and that was for bad communication and slow shipping, completely unrelated to scamming and selling counterfeits as genuine. Also, that might of been similar to an auction I'd do if I found a strange collectible like a stamp or a baseball card before I knew about forums and coins. He's basically stating "judge my description and auction and pay what you want" which I don't find overly dishonest. If anything, I fault the buyers for not doing their research and using common sense before bidding.

Regardless of his business ethics, your right in that people are dumb. Did you see the ending bid? $455 for what is obviously a fake coin. I don't know if it's just that they are uneducated, or just don't read the details.

auction cancelled, nailed 'em for the stock photos Quote:Dear ebay Member, Thank you for writing ebay to report this potentially violating listing to us. I have thoroughly investigated your report, and have confirmed that the item was in violation of the ebay Selling Coins policy. As such, I have removed the listing from the ebay site. Thanks again for your report. Sincerely, Akira ebay Customer Support

The link to that coin has been removed. I didn't get a look at it, but I have seen some coins on ebay that one should shy away from. But I bought some nice coins off ebay and for the most part the coin sellers are pretty honest. There are always some dumb a$$'s associated with just about anything that is being sold.
