as much as I am concerned, bimetallic Russian coins are not circulating at all. I spend some time in Ekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk in summer 2009 and haven't seen any in circulation, though having high hopes to find many before I went, I was very disappointed :(

My family got three different 10 ruble coins, including a "Federation" series, in circulation. But surely they don't come up often.

Maybe they're circulating in some parts of Russia - it is an enormous country after all!, and not circulating in some parts..
My brother's wife is Russian and recently she brought a single metal, possible brass-aluminum 10-Ruble coin dated 2009 from there.

Right, in October 2009 Russia introduced a new "monometallic" 10 ruble circulation coin. That one replaces the bimetallic pieces that had been issued so far: (old) diameter 27 mm, ring brass, pill Cu-Ni (new) diameter 22 mm, brass-plated steel This year's commems still have the "old" specifications. Here's my new regular (non-commem.) monometal/unimetal (pick the term you like) 10 rubles. It is quite smaller!  It has the same security device - inside the zero in the denomination at one angle you see "10", at another - "rub". On my pic you could see a faint outline of "rub", in Cyrillic of course. |
