I can't believe 3 people actually chose 2/3. What makes this a bad deal in your opinion?

Here are some thoughts:

- The rim hits on the reverse will probably make it "Details" grade.

- If the rim hits don't do it, the porosity to the right of the arrowheads probably will.

- The "color" on the wings hints at something other than natural toning.

- The sharp line of contrast above the olive leaves, and the clean area in the field next to the eagle's right wing, hints at possible cleaning.

The coin looks to be about VG8. The price is at the top of the market for a slabbed example, excepting PCGS. I'm not optimistic. Of course, the pics are not great; this could all change once you have the coin in-hand.

I am in the same camp as SD. I started to type a response last night, but backed out because I couldn't find a gentle way to say it the way SD did.

I did the exact same thing.

I gave it a 5/10. The rim hits and color hurt it and I valued it at Fine, which puts it a touch high price wise for a raw piece. It's not a bad deal from what I see, just average.

This is a 'Details" or "Genuine" depending on TPG. That alone cuts the price in half, so the cleaning and toning are mute, since the rim damage crippled it in the first place. You have a coin that will fill a spot in an album if need be, but at a hefty price. Post Mint Damage is a killer in coin pricing, so learn what to look for and adjust you pricing accordingly when grading a coin and deciding how much to pay. The 1895-S has a numismatic value, so rising silver prices don't have alot to do with pricing, but PMD does. Sorry, don't mean to offend, so lets all consider this a learning moment.

Not for nothing, but you can return it for refund within 7 days. And you do not have to have a reason. Also, the bidder just under you with a 600+ FB also has 100% buying with this seller(LOOKS FISHY TO ME!) Just my 2 cents...kenny

I wouldn't pay that much for that puppy unless it came with papers.

I can stand the rim dings but the coloring is what I don't like about it.
I would of spent the extra few bucks to get a graded one.

I guess 7 is mind blowing then isn't it? I was one of the first three and I didn't leave a comment because I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings but its basically what SuperDave has already mentioned that caused my vote, including his grade

I think it could be a pretty good deal depending on what better pictures show.
