I know that when I ordered my 3 silver sets, they were not individually boxed within the box. Once I opened the box that arrived from the mint, my chance of getting them certified was gone. I wasn't to worried about it. I prefer them raw but I have a feeling that your gold sets might arrive the same way. I only ordered one gold set so there was not a box within a box issue to deal with.

Looks like I'd have to call the mint and have the sets shipped separate, if I want to have one set graded. Watch me go through all the trouble of having a set graded then get MS-68. Maybe I'll just keep the sets how they are.

I guess it depends on who you send it to. PCGS seems to me tighter on their grading than NGC, but who knows. I haven't seen many 68 grades on these sets, though. The quality seem to be pretty high.

Found this while looking around on ebay. Very interesting reading. It is virtually a commentary (in a sellers section) on the Mint's operation of collector coins. I think a lot of his facts, if not all are correct.

Buy a couple sets now and save them, and in 5-10 years sell a few off on ebay and laugh all the way to the bank. The Reverse Proof is going to be the second lowest minted coin the the ASE series.

My 2 sets still have not shipped. IF I had an extra 800.00, I'd buy 8 more sets. Sell them in 10 years and send my kid to college or buy a new car:)

I have my first 10 sets already here in 2 per box so I have 5 boxes already, and I have 5 more boxes that says they will ship in december with 2 sets in each box that are going to my aunts house next door. I paid 4.00 a box but atleast I dont have to send but 2 sets at a time to the TPG to get them certified as 20th anniversary sets. I think I blew 2 years of budget on the gold 20th anniversary sets and the silver sets but atleast I have already sold one of the gold sets and paid for 5 of the Gold sets

WOW I thought most of the reverse proof's were coming back 70's, I would be very disapointed with a 68 reverse proof

Bryan, I also see that my 12/8 backordered sets now also say "In stock and reserved". I was a little worried since when I originally saw the 12/8 date, these sets are Xmas gifts to family members and they wouldn't arrive in time for Xmas.

I sent this seller an email about his comments and this is what he sent back. Thought it would be of interest to everyone.

"You are very welcome Guy. FYI...the first-strike designation was thought up by a low life whose name I will not mention here. Unfortunately, I know him well and I consider him to be nothing more than a swindler and a cheat. He sells coins on a tv coin show for outrageous prices and gets away with it because of the hype he puts on them. Because of the huge volume of coins he submits for grading, he was successful in convincing several coin grading services to provide a first strike designation for his coin show and the rest is history. By the way, I believe that these 3 coin sets will be a great investment. If you're looking for a set or two, you can buy them directly at the US Mint for $100 a set. My primary purpose in this auction was to inform coin collectors of the false and misleading first strike designation and to enable investors who have already purchased the maximum limit of 10 sets to buy more if they wish to do so. In my opinion they will sell out soon.
Thank you again for your very kind comments and good luck in your numismatic search."

Check this web page on the US Mint web site. Scroll down to "First Strike". You will see that the die sets are replaced after every 300 - 500 Proof Eagles. Also, how they are distributed. To me, only the first coin on each die set is a true first strike and there is no way to know if you get one of those are not. They are minted every 300 - 500 coins so they are available throughout the entire minting process!

Guido,

I was confused like you were. When you go to the US Mint site and click on 20th Anniversary sets it shows this beneath the picture of the silver set:

Product will be available for shipping 12/08/2006.

But if you click on the blue words above the picture it will take you to the notice posted by Berry4402. Pretty confusing.

I sure appreciate this kind of information. I watch the TV coin guy just to hear what new overly-creative marketing mumbo jumbo he will come up with next. Would you buy a used car from this guy?
