I have been looking at this coin every once in a while since this morning, and I believe it is real, hopefully some of the other Indian head collectors will chime in.

The fields look grainy to me. All of the devices are uneven, yet it's red. The luster is wrong. I suppose it's possible it's not a counterfeit, but I wouldn't take a risk on it. If it's real, it's a $3 coin that has been unfortunately disguised.
Maybe this is what a coin looks like after an acid bath...

Update: I brought the coin to a trusted dealer to examine. He says that it's genuine, but doctored. The color is wrong, there is a gash along the face, and the aforementioned nick along the bottom. He gave it a grade of 3. I'm tempted to send it off to PCGS to get an official ruling one way or the other... :)

i would trust the dealer and save the pcgs fee. we all have bought coins that have had issues whether we want to admit it or not. I have had my fair share thats for sure. LOL

I think some of the anomalies being spotted are from the pixellation in the original pictures on the auction. Zooming in on pics of this this low of a resolution can make it hard to make accurate judgements. I personally think it is legit.

Update: I contacted the seller and he agreed to give me a full refund, and apologized for any problems. He even told me to keep the coin. There are good people in the world! :) I gave him what the coin was worth in the damaged condition and we both walked away happy.

Didn't know where to put this, I'm not sure if this is suppose to be a counterfeit or not. I found it roll hunting, I was excited at first thinking I've found my first IH. But quickly realized its not even close. And its only half of what ever its suppose to be, I'm thinking maybe a button, Anyone ever see one of these. Thanks hope you enjoy.

Probably made as play money is my guess. Still might be old play money (40-50 years old?).

They make similar play money still today for use in schools, only these days it's made of plastic.

$30 for that coin is not bad at all. I don't believe it's been cleaned but dipped, more than likely. The color is just too bright.
