OK, I think we've beaten the newcomer hard enough.

Welcome, stoxy. We're considerably friendlier than you might think after the first three people you heard from here called your coin a fake (and asked for pictures anyways).

So, um, do you have any pictures?

I would love to see some pictures of a 1916 Morgan. I have to ask are you sure it isn't a 1916 Mercury dime? If it is and if it has a small d on the back then we can make your day instead of ruining it if its a 1916 Morgan

I am sorry. I am having a hard time getting a picture up. I'll have to get some help. The coin is in bad shape but the date is clear. The back is not like any other Morgan I have been able to find. Can I email the pic for someone to post?

stoxy, you can email it to me. Click onto my CCF username ("Morgan Fred") on the left, send me a quick message (no attachments yet), then we can correspond directly. I upload to my website, then post the URL of the image so it comes right up in the forum. Don't worry about image size; I can manipulate it with one of my graphics program if necessary. I also have broadband, so size isn't important.

Give me a little while to post it. I've got several projects going on this evening. But, I WILL get to it (barring catastropic and unanticipated events at this end, e.g., rattlesnake bite (possible), flash flood (not likely), desert fire (always a possibility), or generator failure (occasional, expensive, but I have three)

Sorry, I am having technical problems. The kids will be over on Thanksgiving and they will get the pics up for me. I am sure the head is the same as a Morgan but it says LIBERTY on the top. The date is clearly 1916. The back says UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and appears to have a pillar in the center but it is too hard to make out. It is worn and has been in the family for over 75 years. It is not something that was bought on ebay or anything like that. Thanks for the help it will be up on Thurs.

I have an e-mail address that you can send it to. It is a catchall address that will throw out junk anyway.

I will post the photo for you here.

send it to: hook@eworldz.com

It is definitely sounding like a Mercury dime. What is the size of this coin?

"Morgans" were dollars, large dollars.
The center pillar sounds like what is on a Mercury dime.
Pictures are still important if it is a 1916. There is a possibility of it being the key of this set. Pictures will help us determine for sure.

OK We are getting somewhere. It seems to be the same as the Mercury dime but it does not say ONE DIME. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is clear but there is nothing where it should say ONE DIME. I promise pics up Thurs. Thanks for your help.

OK thats what I thought, a 1916-D dime is the KEY COIN of the series and worth a pretty good bit so please post pics ASAP. Of course it couls still be a silver round of some sort (which could be why it was thought to be a dollar coin because of the size) or a tribute peice and thats why it doesn't say "One Dime",but we will be able to tell you no matter what when we see a picture

Already thought of that but didn't find anything without the "One Dime" on any patterns of the Mercury dime

Thanks for your help. It seems to be a commemorative or jewelry piece of a Mercury dime.
