First, it is not a true 50c (doesn't mean I don't want one ;-) It was struck on a 50c planchet, but doesn't have a demonimation, issuing country or date. So in reality, it should be more accurately refereed to as a medallion or some such. Second, it is widely held that this pattern was struck at the RAM in 1988 (even tho' no evidence on the 'coin' itself).

Sorry for the late reply,
I bought the coin from a friend who now lives in a different state. He had financial problems and that is why I got it for a small price. Apparently he resolved his financial problems so guess what? He kept the coin. He did refund my money.
Maybe I should have received the coin before I made the topic. I am sorry if I got your hopes up.

Steve - Oz 50c man, what do you mean by "doesn't have a demonimation, issuing country or date."? There is a typical COA with 50 on it, date 1988 and Australia on reverse according to McDonald guide image. Is this is image is not the actual one? Thanks, zic

I understood this 1988 50c had the COA instead of the tall ships which was a mint error

Hi Zic, I was talking about the trial pattern see http://www.triton.vg/trial.htmlwhen I said "doesn't have a demonimation, issuing country or date." Floridapalms, you are right that the standard '88 50c has the tall ships, but there is one known CoA '88 50c (a mule) that shouldn't exist.

I have recently come across another 50c Mule (or at least rumours of such) and thought I would share.
It has Australian Obverse with a Fijian 50c Reverse. Reports say it is either a '75 or a '78. I have read that the RAM made Fijian 50c coins in '75, but not sure...
Does anyone have any further info?

I believe there is a 1978 20c with a Fijian reverse and an Australian obverse.
